The renewed interest in exploring natural sources of alternative anti- H. pylori agents has been forced by the increased side effects to common treatments and the spread of antibiotic resistance. The use of plant extracts could help control H. pylori infection in low-income countries, where the rate of infection is particularly high. However, more clinical investigations evaluating the toxicity, chemical or physical stability, and bioavailability of plant bioactives are warranted.
