About this deal

About Anton, i did have my suspicions when he (at the perfect timing) got out of the chair to avoid the dart and when he told Bonbon about the poisonous flower at Herriet's house , like it was too strange yk. Alasdair Beckett-King has created a brilliantly crafted, clever and funny character with rich storylines that have this Bookwagon reader retracing to enjoy anew, and try to match Bonbon’s deductive skills.

Engaging and 'safe' first detective story (if yours hasn't read Horowitz's Diamond Brothers series yet - that should be next). But can she solve this case alone, or will she need double the detectives to solve double the murder? Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world. The child detective who is much smarter and more perceptive than the adults in charge, the colourful cast of suspects with their own secrets and shadowy motives, the strange and slightly gothic setting, and of course, crisps. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!Murder at the Museum is deadly, it’s also funny packed full of clues ready to be found and deciphered and, although full of black and white illustrations, thanks to Claire Powell, it’s a colourful story. And it’s also a heart-warming example of a special relationship between a young girl and her Grampa. Claire Powell’s illustrations give readers a peek at Bonbon’s case notes and bring the wonderful characters to life.

Another nod to the crime "formula" was the ultimate finale where all the suspects are brought to the big reveal of "whodunnit! It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. With lovely black-and white illustrations throughout, this is the perfect cosy mystery to tuck into.

Bonnie becomes Montgomery Bonbon and with her grandad sets out to solve the mystery of this highly suspicious set of events. Then again, can Bonbon and Banks follow the un-oniony scented clues to arrive at the culprit, ahead of the unwanted arrival of Inspector Sands?

Montgomery Bon Bon is going to become an iconic name in middle grade mystery if Beckett-King continues this series and let’s her (sorry I mean him) get their hands on more crimes to solve. Suspecting something sinister is afoot, Bonnie finds a quiet corner, removes a raincoat and false moustache from her backpack, and is miraculously transformed into Montgomery Bonbon, the world’s greatest detective (at least as far as Grampa Banks is concerned). I loved the crime element and how its portrayed, it feels suspenseful without feeling silly or too dry. Like all perfect grandparents, he is quietly proud of Bonnie and loves secretly spoiling her and indulging her hobbies – even when Mum really doesn’t want him to. As a solid four from me it definitely has broad appeal, and many a young reader will want the sequels to come "ASAP as possible".During the summer holidays, Bonnie Montgomery and her grampa visit the local museum, the Hornville Museum of Natural History and Suchlike. Meet Montgomery Bonbon (aka Bonnie Montgomery) the world’s greatest ten-year-old secret super sleuth!

It also has a lot of heart, largely owing to Grandpa, but also because Bonnie is a really likeable main character - quite often young detectives tend to be irritating and entitled but Bonnie wasn't at all. Then again, Bonnie has a further problem when she realises that Dana Hornville is also upon the island. Something to consider, if you're into this kind of narrative - mysteries for young readers - or even if you're just a fan of this artist and you're curious to see how's his writing skill (spoiler: it's quite good! Upon visiting the Hornville Museum with its eclectic displays, Bonnie and Grampa end up discovering a murder!

Whether or not one grasps all the littlest “insider jokes” will neither disturb nor interrupt the picking-up tension in the story leading up to the solving of the murder mystery. When Bonnie Montgomery finally gets a break from cracking cases as her alter-ego, Montgomery Bonbon, something terribly fishy happens the moment she and Grampa Banks arrive on Odde Island for half-term – and it's not just the smell of the harbour. Bonnie and Grandpa Banks are visiting the Hornville Museum – the oldest building in Widdlington – when there’s a dreadful scream and they are plunged into darkness. Joining the ranks of stand-ups writing novels for children is this author, who invents a quirky young heroine, and thrusts her right into a locked-room mystery. While the plot is convincing enough to engage readers and keep them guessing, the underlying mood of Bonnie’s story is a gentle humour.
