Our SMARTY SIM connected right away to 4G while abroad, but you can’t connect to 5G abroad. We don’t see it as a huge loss, but you won’t be able to get the fastest speeds possible while roaming.

You won’t get any minutes or texts included on SMARTY’s Data Only plans. If you need them, you’ll be charged an extra 10p per minute, 10p per text and 40p per MMS. Alternatively, you can just change to one of SMARTY’s regular plans which come with unlimited minutes and unlimited texts included. Compatible Devices In the suburbs we got our lowest result of 7Mbps, while we got as high as 40Mbps over 4G in a rural area where there was no signal congestion. In the city centre we got speeds as high as 70Mbps. If you’re travelling abroad to one of 35 European destinations, you can use up to 12GB of data abroad at no extra cost each month. You can also use the unlimited minutes and the unlimited texts from your SMARTY plan. In every place we tested we got almost identical signal bars between the two networks. There was a little fluctuation but never in either’s favour. We got 5G and 4G in the same areas on SMARTY and Three.We loaded a Three SIM in one and a SMARTY SIM into two separate but identical test phones and went out to test coverage. You can use SMARTY’s unlimited data SIM card in other devices such as your tablet, mobile broadband dongle, mobile wi-fi hotspot or 4G router. SMARTY offers 5G at no extra cost on every single one of its plans, whether you’re a new or existing customer. So if you have a 4G plan on SMARTY you’ll find that you can now enjoy 5G as well (as long as you also have a 5G device). SMARTY’s traffic management policy is simpler than most, as it simply says that it doesn't enforce any data shaping or network throttling, which is to say that your speeds and bandwidth shouldn’t be intentionally slowed under any circumstances.
