Tom Simpson Night at Grand Central, Brighton - The Grand Central (29-30 Surrey Street, Brighton) - Brighton

The first of a new series of evening events in Brighton for cycling fans brings veteran cycling journalist Chris Sidwells to The Grand Central, to talk about his uncle, Tom Simpson.Tom Simpson was arguably Britain's greatest-ever cyclist: in 1962, he became the first British rider to wear the Tour de France yellow jersey and, in 1965, he won the road world championships and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Simpson was also a winner of Milan-San Remo and Paris-Nice. Chris Sidwells, a longtime contributor to Cycling Weekly, Cycle Sport and many other publications, will be previewing 'Cycling Legends 01 Tom Simpson', a new biography that tells the full story of Simpson's life, complete with input from team-mates, led by Eddy Merckx, and many previously unpublished photographs. Chris is keen to present Tom Simpson's full, inspirational story, a story that is often overshadowed by his tragic death during the 1967 Tour de France. At the Grand Central, Chris will have Tom Simpson memorabilia and equipment on display, including the bike on which Simpson won Paris-Nice in 1967, beating his team-mate Eddy Merckx.Chris will be in conversation with former Procycling magazine writer Duncan Steer. This will be a great evening for all cycling fans in a lovely venue, less than a minute's walk from Brighton station.
