About this deal

Vanishing Point”– This is one of my all-time favorite moon shots. Every time I shoot a crescent moon, this is the one that I have in my mind to try to beat. The all-metal filter ring is a pleasant surprise compared to the plastic rubbish from Nikon and Canon. Fern in Yosemite Valley, 11:02 AM, 16 May 2014. Fuji X-T1 at Auto ISO 200 and Auto DR 100, 200mm at f/5.6 at 1/400, Athentech Perfectly Clear. bigger or full resolution.

I’m not a pixel peeper. I used to care about that stuff but I don’t have the time, energy, or interest to scour over photos at 300%. This lens is just fine in the sharpness category. At all focal lengths this lens is good enough to provide very good sharpness throughout the frame. Is this lens going to be as sharp as the 50-140? Of course not. But I am very happy with the performance and it definitely is sharp enough. What little distortion there is can be corrected for more critical use by plugging these figures into Photoshop's Over the past few years, the digital camera market has been transformed by the arrival of mirrorless compact system cameras. Freed from film-era design constraints, these can provide image quality to match SLRs in a much more portable form factor. Entry-level models provide compact-camera like handling and simplicity, while high-end cameras such as the Sony NEX-7, Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Fujifilm X-E1 are able to offer a full set of enthusiast-friendly manual controls in smaller, more discreet systems, and with relatively few compromises. However to persuade buyers to forsake their SLRs, the camera companies also need to offer lens lines that will cover their needs.First thing’s first, I wanted a telephoto zoom for my Fujifilm kit. This lens goes from 55mm on the short side to 200mm on the long end, which is a full frame equivalent to 82.5mm all the way up to 300mm. This is plenty of reach for most situations. Even with my 100-400 I don’t have too many landscape shots at focal lengths longer than 300mm.

The Fuji XF 55-200mm OIS is optically superb, has fantastic image stabilization and is faster and better made than other brands of APS-C zooms. This lens has a fast and near silent autofocus that is thanks to the inner focusing system. Fujifilm reduced the weight of the focus lens and mounted a Twin Linear Motor that makes the high-speed, quiet autofocus possible. This fast and quiet autofocus means that you can take photos unnoticed in quiet locations. What's in the box?

How to read our charts Chromatic aberration is the lens' inability to focus on the sensor or film all colours of visible light at the same point. Severe chromatic aberration gives a noticeable fringing or a halo effect around sharp edges within the picture. It can be cured in software. The Fujifilm XF55200 features a 62mm Filter Thread. Which is perfect since it matches the thread of my 23mm f1.4 lens. I personally use GOBE Filters, which I have talked about time & time again here.

Anyway, the 55-200mm stabilizer works so well that all my hand-held shots are sharp at 1/8 second at 200mm, and most are usable at 1/4 second. I'm unsure if everyone will do this well, it helps if you know how hold and shoot a rifle, and if you can, I can get sharp flowing water shots at long shutter speeds. You should be able to handhold 300 at around 1/500 without much problem using the 1/f rule-of-thumb from the manual days and allowing for a 1.5x crop factor. Even with 3.5 stops of stabilization (which is about the minimum you get from Fuji with the XC lenses) that comes down to under a 60th. The Fujifilm 55-200mm f3.5-4.8 R LM OIS XF Fujinon Lens has been designed to provide pin sharp images across its entire focal range, as well as having a large aperture from f3.5-4.8. The lens is capable of high-speed autofocus acquisition thanks to two linear motors and has an in-built image stabilisation system that allows for shutter speeds 4.5 stop slower. The lens has been designed for use on Fujifilm's compact system cameras that have an X lens mount, such as the Fujifilm X-E3. I just took the 18-135 and the 35mm f2 – and they did their jobs well. I never really hankered or wished for anything different whilst I was over there in Myanmar. As it turned out (you can read in my blog on the trip to Myanmar), I ended up falling into Inlay Lake with all of my camera gear attached. The only thing that got ruined was the X-T1 because it had no lens or body cap on at the time. However, the 18-135 and the 35mm F2 and my X-T2 were and are still fine. Just as well I opted for the sealed lenses! It feels great to have a mostly metal lens in my hands. All the other brands of 55-200mm are all plastic.Expanded Fujifilm 55-200mm f3.5-4.8 R LM OIS XF Fujinon Lens key Features: Classic High Quality Fujifilm Build It takes a little effort to get the ring to twist from wide, where the lens is at its shortest, to long where the zoom extends to its longest focal distance. I understand your comment re full size images. This is not a lens review post it is an example of the artistic characteristics of the lens. These pictures clearly show the bokeh. If lens sharpness is to be assessed then a far more scientific process is needed and will be carried out by some technician somewhere.
