About this deal

A lovely idea for a sympathy gift for someone who has been bereaved, this remembrance rose could be a focal point in a memory garden created for someone special. Mum in a Million – a beautiful floral tribute Containerised roses are available throughout the year (although there are more available during the summer months) and are roses that we have planted into containers during the winter months when the plants are dormant. If purchasing a container rose early in the year it is advisable to wait until early June before planting out into the garden. This is to give the roots system a chance to establish without damaging the young fibrous roots. In summer months containerised roses must be watered daily to ensure good health and maximum blooms. The advantage of buying a rose in a pot is that you can select the plant yourself during a visit to our nursery and gardens, giving you the opportunity to see the rose in flower prior to purchasing. Containerised roses are usually available for delivery within 3 - 5 days unless otherwise stated.

On the same day that two doves were released into the American sky to symbolise the naming of the rose, Berlin fell and a truce was declared. It was sheer coincidence. In naming the rose, this simple statement was read: “ We are persuaded that this greatest new rose of our time should be named for the world’s greatest desire: ‘PEACE’.”

Endorsed by the RHS Award of Garden Merit and public alike, havingbeen voted 'World's Favourite Rose' in 1976. It is steeped in history and was named in 1945 to commemorate the end of Second World War, having been smuggled out of France as a seedling during hostilities. At Peace' produces masses of fragrant blooms from theearly weeks ofsummer, right throughto the first frosts of the year. A garden rose that enjoys full sun but will tolerate part-shade, Together Forever is a beautiful way to express a message from the heart, in flower. Absent Friends – a lovely floral tribute to mark a significant date

Supplied freshly in a 3L pot, ready to be planted out. Please note at certain times of the year this variety may be supplied in a 4L pot. As you take the rose out of the pot, carefully tease out the roots as this will encourage root growth and help your plant to avoid drought in summer. The story of the ‘Peace’ rose is one that can be told over and over again because it encapsulates everything that we hold dear in roses – drama, love and greatness of spirit. Having past the sixtieth anniversary of the naming of this enduring rose, it remains an excellent garden rose, and a symbol of our desire for that ever-elusive peace. The creation of ‘Peace’ was beautifully chronicled in Antonia Ridge’s book ‘For Love of a Rose’ and it was something of a miracle that the rose ever saw the light of day.INCREASES UPTAKE OF WATER & NUTRIENTS - Plants treated with Rootgrow develop a secondary root system, with the express purpose of seeking out new sources of water and other key nutrients that are required to keep your plants happy and healthy. Its contribution to the rose world has been immeasurable. Because of its vigour and dependability, ‘Peace’ has been used in breeding programmes across the world. It is recorded that ‘Peace’ is the ‘mother’ in 150 varieties and the ‘father’ in a further 180 varieties. There would be many more if breeders always declared the parentage of new releases. Indeed it is probably safe to say that most of our modern roses are descended in some way from ‘Peace’. A few of the great garden roses that have ‘Peace’ in their lineage are: ‘Double Delight’, ‘Casanova’, ‘Blue Moon’, ‘Soaring Wings’, and ‘Electron’. For a bare root rose the hole should be wide enough to allow the roots to be spread out and deep enough so that the base of the stems are just covered. We recommend using a good quality compost, like John Innes No 3, especially if planting roses into pots. We would also advise adding a proprietary rose food or bone meal into the base of the hole. A handful is enough and this should be mixed in with the soil there to avoid root scorch. A little powdered food can also be sprinkled onto the removed soil before it is returned.

Francis Meilland died in 1958 but his son Alain and daughter Michelle and their children continue the Meilland tradition of breeding roses. After ‘Peace’ became so well known, Francis wrote in his diary: “How strange to think that all these millions of rose bushes sprang from one tiny seed no bigger than the head of a pin, a seed which we might so easily have overlooked, or neglected in a moment of inattention.” An At Peace Rose is the perfect gift to help celebrate the life of a lost loved one. Yellow roses are a symbol of friendship which make them an ideal gift to send your love and condolences. The Scent from Heaven memorial rose is a climber which will beautifully cover trellises, arches and pergolas to create a fragrant and tranquil corner of the garden – a wonderful way to remember someone special. Together Forever – a remembrance rose with a special sentiment

My Darling Wife rose – for someone who lives on in your heart

Because Meilland had sent out his cuttings just before the war, communication between the cultivators was not possible, which is why the rose received different names. In France, Francis and Alain Meilland decided to call the cultivar 'Madame A. Meilland', in honor of Francis' deceased mother, Antoine Meilland's wife, Claudia. [2] This is the formal cultivar name. Other names are considered by the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants as trade or selling names. In Italy it was called Gioia (Italian for "joy"), in Germany Gloria Dei (Latin for "glory of God") and in the US, Sweden, and Norway Peace. You should feed your roses in spring as the buds start to form. If the growth slows in summer you can feed it again.

If you are looking for a memorial rose to commemorate a special person in your life, You can also find a My Darling Mum rose, which is a yellow hybrid tea. There are two wonderful floribundas to discover, the popular lilac-colour My Lovely Dad rose and My Darling Husband rose, in shades of peach and apricot. Peace', without doubt, is the finest Hybrid Tea ever raised and it will remain a standard variety forever". 'Mme A. Meilland' bud Description [ edit ] Peace’ also breathed new life into the gardening world, which sorely needed reviving after the war. The huge amount of publicity it received internationally made people excited about growing roses again. It has been said that ‘Peace’ is in every public park and the ‘must have’ variety for every garden. Because it grew so well and so easily, people were not afraid to try their hand at other roses and so the rose industry took off, once again.Choose from any or all of our options available, to personalise your rose gift and make it completely unique.
