About this deal

Quads and glutes get most of the glory when we talk about squats, but your knees are essential for making the squat happen. They need to be aligned with the feet during your squat and shouldn’t cave in. PERFECTLY DESIGNED: First, we designed our squat wedges to be independent, one for each foot, so you can place them the way you want (feet straight, outwards or inwards) and choose a wide or narrow stance. Second, after extensive research and trials, we found that a 30 to 60 millimeter incline was the perfect angle for the wedges to maximize comfort and performance. In my experience, an angle of around twenty degrees is rather sufficient for improving squat depth without sacrificing balance or overloading the knees and quadriceps. There’s no harm in using more or less of an angle; you’ll just need to determine what’s best for your needs. This is a bit of a turn off for me as it means you have to line your feet up perfectly before beginning your set.

Squats of any type will place these affected tissues into a lengthened state, which can lead to discomfort or pain. If this pain or discomfort limits or prevents your ability to squat, using wedges or a board to avoid stretching the sensitive tissue(s) can often permit you to continue squatting by avoiding this issue in the process. The days of throwing a plate under your heel are gone. Not only is that unsafe, but is most likely not helping to target and improve the issue at hand. The newer and safer method of correcting poor squat stance and form is to add a squat wedge. Slant boards come in two distinct varieties, as well: adjustable and non-adjustable. They tend to float around the same price range, but the former’s selling point is the ability to change the incline of your board to better optimize your stretching angles and gradually ramp them up. A benefit of solid boards, however, is that they tend to feel more stable. And it’s much easier to find a large one at an affordable cost—there’s much less material and engineering involved. Material and Grippiness Strong Load Capacity Up To 440LB] Sport slant board can hold up to 440LB, so most adults can use it even for obese people and over weight people. Concave and convex particles on the surface increase the friction, preventing from slipping.

The incline angle of the ATG Buddies is 20° which is a pretty nice middle ground between the Wedgiez and Harderwill/FAE options, so I’m quite happy with this. Too Expensive? There’s no universal rule for the absolute best or most ideal angle when using wedges or a slant board. That being said, an angle that is too small might not produce beneficial changes to your squat pattern or quadriceps activation. At the same time, an angle that’s too extreme may cause you to lose your footing or balance entirely. The squat depth an individual can adequately (and safely) achieve is inherently linked to the overall mobility of their muscles, tendons, and joints. With everything in the body essentially being linked, decreased mobility in one area of the body (the lower body, in particular) can reduce overall squat performance and range of motion. As we dive into this article, be aware that you may hear various terms for this sort of squat or squatting technique; slant boards, slant board squats, heel lifts, squat wedges, heel-raised squats, etc., tend to all mean the exact same thing. So, keep that in mind in case you’re hearing some slightly different terminology about this topic either online or in the gym.

The wedge is made of high-density rubber and is tilted at 20 degrees, with a lift of slightly under two inches at its maximum point. The wedge is surprisingly robust, weighing 14 pounds, making it great for big lifts and the assurance that your feet will not slip about as you work out.

Working...

Almost all slant boards come with some sort of sandpaper, rubber, or other gripping surface to help keep your feet in place, which is especially helpful if you’re maxing out an adjustable board’s angle and relying more on friction to stay standing. Not every tape is going to perform the same, though, with most cheap options offering little in terms of traction. On the other hand, some of the higher-quality grip tapes can also be incredibly abrasive. So perhaps avoid some of the coarsest ones if you’re hopping on one of these boards in your nice trainers right after a run. Squats are excellent for improving your range of motion and making everyday activities more accessible. I’ve often seen various lifters (knowingly or unknowingly) use squat wedges as a crutch for their training, as opposed to an adjunct that allows them to keep squatting while simultaneously taking action to improve their limited mobility. This phenomenon is also often taken advantage of in the world of physical rehabilitation (typically in later stages) when looking to rehabilitate various types of knee and quadriceps injuries, such as patellar tendinopathy and quadriceps tendinopathy. Benefit 3: Offloading painful tissues Improved Squat Form: A squat wedge is designed to elevate the heels, which allows for a more upright torso and better alignment of the knees and hips during a squat.
