About this deal

It doesn’t help, either, that the mist and clouding that hangs over dark scenes can sometimes take on a reddish or bluish tint that throws up an even greater barrier between you and what you’re trying to watch. There’s support for Dolby Atmos, the Dolby Vision HDR format, Chromecast is built in and Google Assistant can be accessed via the remote control. Dolby Atmos®, an internal subwoofer and our integrated speakers, designed by Onkyo, complete your audio and visual cinematic experience for captivating viewing.

David Flintoft, UK Sales and Marketing Director at Toshiba TV, said: “It’s really exciting to be introducing two brilliant firsts to the Toshiba line-up into the UK.

Our resident Xbox Series X detects the 55QA5D63DB as capable of operating in Dolby Vision HDR mode while gaming, but warns that this mode will likely be affected by high levels of latency. The QA5D was one of five new Toshiba televisions unveiled at IFA, with the UF3D, UK4D, UA3D and LK3C making up the remainder of the 2022 range. Its native 4K pictures are crisp and sharp (a touch too much in its Vivid and Standard picture presets, perhaps), and the sharpness doesn’t break down badly when there’s motion in the frame.

Available in 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch sizes, the UK4D has a frameless design with a 4K UHD panel and TRU Picture Engine with Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and HLG. The QA5D’s smart system, finally, is built around Android TV, complete with Google Assistant voice recognition and an app collection that includes Apple TV+. The UA3D – coming in 43, 50 and 55-inch sizes, is an Android TV offering people who have an existing Google Home set-up, the choice to integrate a Google powered TV into their smart home set up.The advanced options screen has a control for DI Film Mode, which can be set to Auto or Off, but changing this doesn't seem to have any effect. These are still 4K sets, and maintain the support for premium AV features including Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos sound and the full TRU picture processing engine.

It doesn’t boast the sleek build of its big sibling or Dolby Atmos, but the 4K sets do support HDR10 and Dolby Vision. If you wish to further control these Cookies using a third-party cookie solution, that is supported. Of course, the rise of streaming – Disney+ etc – over the last few years due to the pandemic and other factors is no secret, but you really want to make the most of those monthly subscriptions with a decent TV. The only issue is that treble effects can sound over prominent, drawing too much attention to themselves and becoming a touch abrasive at high volumes – something that happens in part because the 55QA5D63DB isn’t as generous with its bass as it is with its high frequencies. Despite these relatively small niggles, though, the 55QA5D63DB sounds impressive overall for such an affordable TV.Well, I sat down this morning in the hope of getting a bit further with my undestanding of all this, and the TV is now behaving as I'd expect in Movie mode as well as Game mode. This model sits below the flagship QA5D in the range as the second Android option, offering quality 4K UHD HDR10 entertainment, powered by TRU Picture Engine, Dolby Vision and Sound by Onkyo.
