About this deal

I absolutely loved every bit of this story. Be it the writing, the mystery behind the kidnapping, the excitement and tension of finding Cody before it is too late, suspense, character development (Moira's was the best!) and plot to story development - absolutely Fantabulous! This is a pretty good follow up to the first book. Lizzie really irritated me in this one, her reaction to Phillip’s “lie” was so over the to it was juvenile. That she would even refuse to consider counseling with him to try and overcome their issues was 🙄🙄🙄. Phillip surprised me, he started maturing in this book, realizing how much Lizzie hurt, but also opening up and considering counseling without her to deal with his loss.

Deep Down Dead is the first novel in the Lori Anderson series. In this fun new story from a talented author, readers get introduced to the main character in this story, named Lori Anderson!

In each chapter we learn more personal information about the individual and realise this is what makes them who they are . Over the next few days I caught up with writer friends old and new, met fabulous editors Leodora Darlington and Victoria Haslam for the first time in person (having joined my publisher in Covid times our meetings have been virtual until now), and met up with my brilliant agent, Oli Munson. I also attended Luca Veste’s book launch for his latest (wonderful) novel You Never Said Goodbye, and the hugely fun Thomas & Mercer party. Other top highlights were seeing the legends that are Michael Connelly and Mark Billingham on stage, and meeting Michael Connelly. Potential suspects and alibis aren't clear cut so a dangerous trap is set - putting one of the team members at risk in a dramatic reveal and takedown. As with the previous two books in this series, the various chapters are told from the different perspectives of the four retirees. This gives the reader the opportunity to get to know each of the characters a bit more and see how they work or what their inner thoughts are of the others or situations they are in. It can be very insightful.

I don't generally care about the person or tense of a book's narrator as I'm pretty flexible, but this is told in 3rd person present tense, which is unusual, and it took a little getting used to. Although it’s not a full on hard hitting crime series I wouldn’t put the series in a cosy mystery genre either it’s somewhere in between. Den ersten Band der Serie kenne ich jetzt nicht, aber das hat nichts ausgemacht; es gab ein paar Referenzen zum ersten Fall, aber das hat meinen Lesefluss nicht gestört.The team must put aside their differences and join forces with a former adversary if they’re to solve the case. But in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, can they lure the killer into the open before one of them pays the ultimate price?"

The ending is predictable, but no less enjoyable because of it. A solid contribution to a summer easy breezy whodunnit series. Personally, I find Phillip quite annoying but I suspect that is intentional. Lizzie is smart and caring but how she puts up with Phillip I'll never know!Death in the Sunshine is a terrific cozy filled with murder, mayhem and mystery. Enough so that I am sure book two will continue to give us more information about the retirees’ past lives as they continue to try and enjoy The Homestead. This book sees Lori and JT head to the city of Chicago to do a job for FBI Special Agent Monroe but, as always, things don’t go to plan. Here’s the blurb… Honestly I was drawn to this thanks to Richard Osman and his entertaining set of books with a similar premise. Was this as good? No. Was it entertaining? Absolutely.

I arrived a day early, on the Wednesday, as my panel was scheduled for 9.30am the next day. I’d been intending to travel by train, but 10 minutes before I was due to leave for the station I got an alert on my phone telling me that my train was cancelled (the rails were a casualty of the immensely hot weather the previous two days). So, instead, I jumped in the car and drove the four plus hours to Harrogate. Ich fand es erneut klasse. Könnte ich mir als Serie super gut vorstellen, das wäre eine Verfilmung wert 😊, und ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Teil! I’m really looking forward to Death At Paradise Palms, Retired Detectives Club #2, when it’s published on November 29, 2022.Grammar in "...he needs to tread real careful..." could be improved if the word "real" was left out completely and "carefully" used instead of careful. As they begin to discuss the evidence Moira has witnessed at the crime scene, they come to the conclusion that not only do the police not want any outside help but have missed important clues. They decide that as a group they will secretly investigate the death and if they find out anything then they will bring it to the police. I like the relationships between the characters, and I expect that there will be more buildup in future books. I want to learn more about them. They are very different protagonists and their past is still quite hidden. There is room for more development. Crime investigation novels are a hit or a miss for me, but I really enjoyed this one. It's the perfect balance of investigation and procedure mixed with real time drama from the characters' own lives. It almost felt like a Florida version of Blue Bloods, one of my favorite shows of all time.
