About this deal

A sublimation mug is a mug (yes, like a coffee mug!) that has been made with a type of ink transfer called sublimation. Sublimation is a chemical process that takes a solid to a gaseous state, skipping the liquid phase. In sublimation printing, “solid” ink is embedded into a polyester substrate by heating it straight to a gas. Ink Experts Style LITE Dye Sublimation paper has been manufactured specifically for dye sublimation applications. Sublimation mugs have a special poly coating applied to the outside—a regular ceramic mug will not work. When you are shopping for mugs, confirm they are sublimation/poly coated. To fit in the Cricut Mug Press, you want the outer diameter to be between 3.2″ and 3.4″. For this project, I’m using a 11oz Cricut sublimation mug. You can also use silicone wraps instead of shrink sleeves. You just wrap your design around your mug and tape it as we just did. Then wrap your mug in butcher paper and tape it under the handle. Now just place the silicone wrap around your mug and close it.

For the first choice, make sure that your chosen software can produce clear and vibrant images. Otherwise, the resulting photo on the mug will not come out that impressive. Drag the rectangle over the rose bouquet. Select both then use align at the top of the canvas and select center vertically. If you’re not printing your own transfer, there are several places you can look to buy sublimation mug transfers online. My favorite place is Etsy—I got this cute Good Vibes Only sublimation transfer there. You want to make sure you’re purchasing the actual transfer for pressing—not just the image to print yourself. Guys, I am totally and absolutely obsessed with sublimation crafts! Ever since the launch of Cricut Infusible Ink, I have made crafts with this fun and easy transfer method! For our example we have used a set of our own 11oz sublimation mugs. Make sure most wrinkles are clear, I focused on the area around the handle but don't make it too tight or it will pull apart in the oven. The term sublimation is typically used in chemistry to describe the direct transition of a substance from solid to gaseous state. However, in the world of printing, it means something entirely different!

It’s the same story with sublimation paper for dark garments, as it was for sublimation on cotton. It can’t really be done. I will also use heat-resistant tape to secure the paper, starting on the seam under the handle, then the bottom and top seams. Next, I will wrap the butcher paper templates I cut out around the mug as well, also using heat-resistant tape to secure it to the mug. Even though they are different methods, you will need pretty much the same supplies to do them. In addition to the objects listed below, you must have either mug wraps or a mug heat press machine depending on your preferred method: Sublimation Printer– I used a converted Epson EcoTank ET Printer (see my tutorial here to learn how to convert it to sublimation) Fold the left tab under the right side and secure it in place with a piece of heat-resistant tape to the sublimation paper on the mug.

How To Do Sublimation On Mugs : Step by Step Guideline

High humidity: In the humidity above 70%. It’s better to choose 110-120 gsm. Since the paper is very easy to become damp with high humidity, it will become softer and stiffness is weak at the same time. If low weight paper is used, it will be hard to print smoothly because of the stiffness and hardness go down. At this time, 110-120 gsm is the best choice. Box of 12 premium grade 9oz Orca Coated Continental mugs. Dishwasher proof. 85mm high x 72mm diameter. You will attach the design to the mug with heat resistant tape just as you would when using an oven. You don’t need a silicone mug wrap for the Mug Press. Make sure that you tape all of the loose edges down slightly, especially at the top and bottom of the mug. Doing so will raise the quality of your resulting print and thus enhance the appeal of your sublimated mugs. b. Print And Cut Sublimation transfer paper is essentially just something to hold your ink, and to take it from your printer to your t shirt.
