About this deal

Potter had secured her first commercial publication marking the start of her career as an illustrator. As the main character inBeatrix Potter's illustrated books, it's no surprise that Peter Rabbit appears on more 50p coins than his friends. Later, Benjamin, Flopsy and their family listen delightedly as Mrs McGregor shouts angrily at her husband believing he has deliberately played a trick on her. The Beatrix Potter character is a firm British favourite and this range was created to celebrate its 150 years. Engraved by coin designer Emma Noble, it shows the famous rabbit in his blue jacket, and is available in a series of finishes, including Gold Proof, Silver Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated.

This design was one of five 50p coins issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter'sbirth. With the encouragement of her father, Potter went on to study at the National Art Training School in London (now the Royal College of Art). The Tale of Peter Rabbit’ was Beatrix Potter’s first tale and the coin features a well known illustration of Peter Rabbit hopping along. These items are perfect for serving tea in nostalgic style and will make lovely gifts for anyone who loves the mischievous bunny and his charming friends. Married in 1913 when Potter was 46, the couple farmed sheep and shared a passion for the conservation of local land. And while the whimsical designs can transport us back to our childhood, the Beatrix Potter coins can also be sought after by collectors.

On 22 December 1943, Beatrix Potter passed away at the age of 77 leaving 4,000 acres of land to the National Trust, along with 14 farms, which amounted to nearly all her property. Mr McGregor sees an ear twitch under the grass and puts the six sleeping little Flopsy Bunnies in a sack. This adorable numbers book with a soft finger puppet of Peter Rabbit is a perfect way to introduce the youngest readers to counting. There were 32 drawings for The Tale of The Flopsy Bunnies in Potter's will, which were presented to the British Museum in 1946. Such was the popularity of the Beatrix Potter coins in 2016, The Royal Mint issued more coins the following year, and Peter Rabbit took centre stage again.
