This is the fourth book in the fabulously funny Pigsticks and Harold series, which would particularly appeal to reluctant readers. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. The first thing that hits you as you open the title page is how beautifully illustrated the inside is. Whether it's a flamingo, a penguin or a hippo knocking at the door, Anna is ready to welcome them all - with the help of her trusty sidekicks T Bear the doorman, Squeak the friendly elevator mouse, and Lemmy the lemur receptionist.She recruits new employees including a handywoman (Stella Giraffe), a feisty chef (Madame le Pig) and a bell boy (Squeak the mouse). Upon arrival Anna is disappointed to see that the place is grey and peeling, the windows are cracks and that there are cobwebs and dust everywhere. Anna is determined to win the prize for Hotel Flamingo for the best display, despite rival hotel the Glitz having won it every year since the Carnival began. Animal Boulevard is a riot of colour, and every establishment is preparing a float for the annual procession. Anna soon rises up to the challenge, welcoming any animal that steps into the hotel -- flamingos, bears, pandas or giraffes!
We've since bought and read the rest of the series over the last year and he's always been so excited when we've started each one. Anna sets about cleaning the hotel up and hires lots of staff including a maid who is allergic to dust and a rude, but very talented chef who wants to do everything his way. On Animal Boulevard the snow is finally melting after a long, quiet winter and Hotel Flamingo is ready to embrace the new season and new guests. It’s a jump for joy moment to realise that this sequel is as good as the first title Hotel Flamingo.I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! Soon though the owner of the local hotel that put them out of business three years ago with his glitzy, huge hotel, wants to see for himself what is happening and he isn’t pleased. The staff, with the exception of Anna, are all different animals and they all enjoy their jobs, especially Mr. The new heiress is saddened to find the hotel looking run-down and empty; there have been no guests for years.
