This book was really not my cup of tea, but I have to give some credit for the research that went into it. Many cultures idolizle the moon and many Goddesses are associated with her power. Luna, Selene, Artemis, Ixchel, Kuan Yin, Isis… Summary: Solid book to explain the different phases of the moon and some rituals that can be helpful. A good read if you are enjoying a beautiful full or new moon. This sounds odd coming from a digital fiend like me, but if you decide to get this book, get a hard copy. The Kindle edition is fine and all, but the graphics are much more stunning in the print copy. p. 62 ask for one thing at a time. That's smart. Focus your energy on single goals is great, especially if they are big goals.

A non-fiction, self-help, instructional collection, Ahlquist shares all types of information about the moon, it’s energy, and how you can involve the timing of it’s phases to aid in all sorts of aspects in your life. I’m not a very superstitious or spiritual person, but there’s something about using moon energy that truly draws my attention. I’ve always been fascinated by the night sky, and there’s just something so peaceful about gazing up at the moon. Reading Moon Magic certainly gave me a better education about the moon itself and it’s folklore, as well as inspiration for things to try and take note of. Below we define the 7 Magical Phases of the Moon to work with for Moon Magic. In our book Moon Magic and Transformational Meditation, we use four of the phases of the moon. The combination of Meditation and Moon Magic create a rhythm and focus to our work. Without spoiling too much, here’s some of the great information that is included within the collection: What I particularly loved about this book was the additional Moon Magic correspondences, such as crystals, oil recipes, herbs, colours, written guided meditation, spells and moon cycle ritual. I know from my own personal practice that it is such a huge relief now to have this "Go To Moon Magic Bible" to discover what crystals and herbs I should be working with in a particular moon phase.Building your power and your knowledge, allowing knowledge to emerge from your unconscious mind and the supra-conscious. Testing yourself by pushing past your self-imposed limitations to evolve at a greater level. Transmuting and transforming your weaknesses, growing relationships with self and others. if you're looking for spells using herbs, oils, candles, crystals, etc...some of that is here. but if you like using someone else's words to focus your intentions or like to use little mantras and affirmations, this is definitely your book. most of the "spells" are just things to say and don't go too much into prep, opening/closing, centering, etc. so again, if that's your thing, this is your book. I think you can tell that I am mostly very frustrated by this book. Fortune’s hostility towards other woman is blatantly apparent and nonsensical. Her bizarre hypocrisy over money and material wealth rubs me extremely the wrong way. The grossness of the treatment of animals whether tortured in vivisection or butchered for furs is made worse because it is all so dismissive, Fortune clearly didn’t have a second thought about it. Oh, and her constant diatribes on how she is so special and powerful and chosen…I just can’t put up with it.

This particular approach to ceremonial magic, from what I have read so far, takes a traditional approach to gender and sexuality. It relies on the "magnetism" between male and female and assumes a "divine feminine" that belongs to all women and is represented, in Nature, by the Moon and the Sea. Likewise, it assumes a "divine masculine" that is represented by the Sun. These elemental forces can be "drawn down" into the priest and priestess during their ceremonies and used for magical ends. I don't believe any of these things to be true, in a literal sense, but I can see how they might be psychologically potent for some people. Moon magic: The book starts by explaining what kind of magic resonates with the moon phases. It's basic, but good information. Then there's several chapters about what crystal/herb/color/tarot/astrology to use while invoking that magic. And... is that moon magic, or is that crystal/etc magic? It's not bad information, but it's a little bit of everything and pretty surface level. I adored this book. I love having books like this not so much to guide me but to be a blueprint as a sort.

Cast a spell that will help you grow your business or your career. This is a good time for long-term or material-gain spells, such as a money-drawing spell or a ritual for finding a new job. Focus on your work and your education. Avoid thinking of your goals as something that is in the future but rather as something that is already starting to happen. Lilith explains her aesthetic and practical choices in some detail in Moon Magic, and also explains why she must remain celibate. There is a kind of cosmic sexual engagement that occurs between priest and priestess during the ceremonial rites; so, the sexual energy between the pair is used for the magic and cannot be used in the normal fashion. Apparently, it is understood in certain occult communities that, "When sex comes in the door, magic goes out the window" (i.e. they become magically impotent). In the rituals Fortune describes in her books, the goddess has thankfully stopped demanding literal sacrifice of men's lives and is content to have their energy and vitality drawn off them during the ceremonies, to use to her own ends. The goddess promises to bless them in exchange for their service, but the blessing will come in her own time and her own way. After these rites, both priest and priestess are left vigorous and revitalised (following a brief period of post-ceremonial exhaustion) much as couples feel after good sex. So their energy that is taken up by the goddess is returned to them manifestly amplified (which is not the case with the blood sacrifices of earlier times, where the reward had to be gained in the afterlife, or not at all). While being sure to include the basics on waxing and waning this author also included references to the uncommon names and the familiar names we're used to seeing in reference to this celestial body. For example we all know about the Hare Moon of May but have you heard of the Milk Moon? May's moon is referred tot his due to the mother's milk and the life force present and coming forward in May.The book and recordings lead us through a series of Transmutational Meditations for personal growth. They are aimed at overcoming Anxiety, quieting the chattering mind, and building focus you need for magical workings. The Yin phases encourage us to meditate inward, healing and strengthening the skill of intense focus. In the Yang phase we turn our energy out ward as we impress our will on our reality, manifesting our desires. The full moon favors communication and social interaction. This phase is very favorable to deal with romantic issues, as it can be a true aphrodisiac. If you have been working on a love spell, this is when you will see the best results. Act on your desires and take chances! The Moon is Earth’s only natural satellite. She accompanies and influences us in many ways, even if we can’t always perceive it. Most Witches are extremely sensitive to the lunar cycles and can sense the effect that the Moon and its phases are having on them. This can be used to make better decisions and expect better results in turn. Lilith Le Fay, one of the two central characters is more of a lightly detailed sketch than a fully fleshed out personality. She is also rather unappealing, having been given a cold predatory nature and seemingly no real emotions or desires of her own beyond surface level.

On the one hand, I want to give it a high rating because it had a lot of information I didn't expect, and that was great! On the other hand, some of that information may seem like fluff to others that buy this book expecting more on Moon Magic, as that is what it is advertised as. I guess you would call me a fledgling witch. I dabble in beginners witchcraft from time to time and have for a few years. I don’t pretend to be more experienced than I am because I simply am not. I do this for me and my peace of mind. Each cycle begins in the darkness of the New Moon. Here in this deep yin phase, we can sew new seeds of what we want to manifest in our physical lives. We watch them grow as the moon grows. The increasing amount of light to reveals new truths about ourselves and the desires we set. This book is the sequel to "The Sea Priestess", but it could easily be read and understood alone. I preferred this novel, in fact. The names of the chapters seemed interesting, but it turned out some of those chapters were just a couple of paragraphs long. I think the concept of applying biodynamics to everyday life is an interesting one, but most of this material is extremely superficial. Some of the things described here are worthy practices (like gratefulness), but, strictly speaking (or even not that strictly), have no connection to the Moon. For instance, the author says that she shakes her hands after meeting an energy vampire as if to shake off their negative energy; this is concluded by: "call it a Moon shake"; why?Throughout history, wise women and men were well aware of the power of the Moon and its changing phases. Spells and rituals timed with these changes are meant to take as much advantage of this energy as possible. Best Spells to Cast on Each Moon An entire section of this book is dedicated to harnessing the moons magic for positive in your life. From the individual days of the week to the moon phases this book outlines the process for access this natural energy for medical, spiritual and mundane procedures. You can even document your progress by using a worksheet or create a vision board to help manifest your magical intentions. I am particularly pleased with the Planting with the Moon chapter; this is such a simple aspect of biodynamic agriculture but so many people forget the impact the Moon has on plants and the soil. I’ve often used lunar agrarian principles for my own garden and others’, but this chapter teaches me things I never knew and will definitely implement myself. From 1919 she began writing a number of novels and short stories that explored various aspects of magic and mysticism, including The Demon Lover, The Winged Bull, The Goat-Foot God, and The Secrets of Dr. Taverner. This latter is a collection of short stories based on her experiences with Theodore Moriarty. Two of her novels, The Sea Priestess and Moon Magic, became influential within the religion of Wicca, especially upon Doreen Valiente. The information about all the above is very conversation, easy to read, and simplistic in it’s description, making it accessible for all readers who are interested in learning more about the moon.
