The supervising adult should discuss the warnings and safety information with the child or children before commencing the experiments. Particular attention should be paid to the safe handling of acids, alkalis and flammable liquids. Although the shaving cream and corn starch snow did not quite win the coldness contest or clean-up test, it came as a close runner up in both areas. The overall texture and ability to play with this snow for hours wins my vote for the best way how to make instant snow without baking soda!

Cold Test: The baking soda and conditioner method feels pretty cold if you put the baking soda in the freezer first. I do not recommend freezing the conditioner though. With the conditioner being room temperature, the snow mixture is not quite as cold as the 1st method. Texture Test: The texture of this baking soda and water snow feels pretty close to the real thing! You can even make it feel more powdery and look more decorative by adding less water. You can also go for a wet and slushy texture by adding a little more water.An example of this would be if it was very cold at the ground level, but you had relatively warmer air that is still below freezing aloft. This warmer air above the ground would have enough moisture to create snow that could fall into the very cold and dry air below. Slowly add some shaving cream to your baking soda and mix it to your desired texture. I usually use about half a can of shaving cream to a 16-ounce box of baking soda.
