About this deal

The manual comes with written instructions and diagrams, most of which were fairly clear though some of the text is a little clunky and hard to follow. Key specs – Pod type: Nespresso original pods, L’OR pods; Drink sizes: Three (ristretto, espresso and lungo); Bar pressure: 19; Water tank capacity: 0. Brew two single espressos at once or a double espresso in one cup with the exclusive L'OR barista double shot system.

If you want to inject some colour into your kitchen, look to this postbox red beauty that’s designed for smaller spaces. They give coffee lovers more control over the texture of their milk, allowing them to create a fine and glossy microfoam, ideal for latte art. All L'OR coffee pods are compatible with the L'OR BARISTA coffee maker, both the classic single-serve capsules and the new L'OR double-serve capsules.

Its slimline body helps it fit between other appliances on a worktop, and its power cable winds up underneath to keep it tidy.

As well as espresso and americanos, it can do milk-based coffees such as flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos. Ease of use, consistency, efficiency and overall design were judged, with our tester also recording each machine’s noise level and energy consumption. So we looked at the finished cup we were able to produce (we are a far cry from a trained barista) from each machine. There’s no getting away from the fact it’s bulky and expensive for a pod coffee machine, but for ease of use and delicious coffee, it might just be worth it. If you're looking for a high-spec coffee pod machine that goes the extra mile – and you have the budget for it – this glossy gadget ticks a lot of boxes. There’s a cup-warming plate as well as extra height under the filter holder, so it can accommodate large cups, and it produced a decent enough coffee with crema – we were impressed. Each coffee pod has a barcode, which the machine reads to produce the right volume: a tiny cupfull for the strong espressos, a big mug’s worth for the Sunday morning brews.

There is, however, little point in asking Alexa to start making your coffee; you have to manually pop the pod in, so you may as well push the button. The easy-to-fill hopper on top grinds beans for the freshest coffee, and the machine produced some of the best-tasting coffee during testing.Choose between a latte, cappuccino, flat white, espresso and more and the machine will take you through the entire brewing process - all you need to do is press the screen when it prompts, and move the portafilter and cup when told.
