About this deal

And when it’s not just the hero who’s haunted but also the heroine, there’s an added dimension to the story that feeds what I crave. The storyline of this book stretches across a decade, flashing between our three protagonists(who were described in the title as “falling angels”): the Field sisters, Norma, Lou and Sandy. Falling Angels was a disappointment—I realized after about 60 pages I had no real interest in the story or characters, all of whom came across like twentieth-century retreads of Edwardian stereotypes. Britain emerged from the shadows of oppressive Victorian values to a more liberal Edwardian lifestyle. I liked the multiple first person narrator structure of the book, giving an all round view of events and the characters’ views and thoughts.

Fallen Angel sheds light on how the enigmatic and dangerous Hells Angels gained momentum to dominate organized crime in Canada.Remarkable Creatures is about pioneer Victorian women fossil hunters and was wonderful – I really enjoyed it. Some of the language feels dated, especially the pejorative words Gowdy chooses to have her characters use, and it felt unnecessary, and uncomfortable because of that. Apparently not and Tracey Chevalier uses the opening of the morning after the night before to instantly put us into the deeply unhappy mindset of one of ‘Falling Angels’ main characters Kitty Coleman.

I haven’t read all of TC’s book by any means but this is my favourite of the ones I have read, by a long chalk. There is nothing wrong with delving into a depressing novel; the great David Adams Richards is a past master of such work. Yes I have changed it you must have popped by before I had set a piece about all the changes to go up.Lavinia Waterhouse is the pretty, pouting, melodramatic product of the worst of Victorian mawkishness -- a spoiled coquette who believes in angels and finds cemeteries ''delicious. I began doing volunteer work at the cemetery to get to know it better, and read about the history of Victorian cemeteries, mourning etiquette, graveyard monuments, symbolism. The classic reference work on angels is beautifully illustrated and its reissue coincides with the resurgence of belief in angels in America. Two years ago, Chevalier created a stir with her novel ''Girl With a Pearl Earring,'' a restrained and fiercely well-imagined story of Vermeer and his most mysterious subject.
