About this deal

ASTM C 1329 on mortar cement is a sister product to C 91. The difference is that mortars made with mortar cements must have certain minimum bond strengths because these materials are intended for use in more structurally demanding applications. Cement types are the same as in C 91: N, S, and M. While it is not disallowed, there does not seem to be much demand in the marketplace for white mortar cement. With your solution prepared, pour in the course dust that you created earlier and stir it around to mix it up fully. Step 4 – Wait for Results

There is more than one way to add color to concrete, even after it has already been poured. You can add a color hardener, which will tint the surface of the concrete. Your property may have been built from a local sand or it may have been imported by a developer who got a great deal from a quarry further afield. NOTE: For larger surfaces, you can use more bags of concrete, more dye, and more water; you just have to be sure that you've done the correct calculations to multiply your needed materials. For Resurfacing Because its multi-component mixes are more prone to segregation than the raw materials used in the grey cement production lines, homogenisation plays a crucial role in the manufacture of white cement.

But with a 4:1 mix and standard Blue Circle cement, both come out largely grey (the golden sand comes out a lighter grey). If concrete is going to be stained, it's better for the concrete to be completely dry and cured before the stain is applied. Ideally, you'll wait about a month before adding stain to new concrete. Similar to the way in which lime can significantly lighten the colour of mortar, as you may imagine, using white cement has the same effect. Our selection of cement additives and cement dye can help you to achieve the best results in your latest construction projects. Additives can help assist or enhance the properties of the mortar or cement mix depending on the desired outcome or the job requirements. We offer a great range of plasticisers, accelerators, retarders, water proofers and frost proofers, colourers and much more. What concrete additives and mortar additives do we have available? Excellent building projects benefit from the use of white cement. When white cement is combined with colour pigments, it may provide striking visual effects without compromising the integrity of the building’s structural integrity. They are often employed in the construction of artificial ceilings, ornamental pillars, and other similar constructions.

As you may imagine, this is quite a costly process but if you are set on getting the best, most naturally blended finish possible, it may be something you’re willing to dig a bit deeper for. If you know the age of your property and its pre-1900’ish then the chances are it may feature a lime-based mortar, especially if it is light in colour. Type II: When compared to other varieties of mortar, Type II mortar stands out. Only when applied to a surface with a typical concentration of sulphates will it provide any noticeable benefit. However, in terms of typical masonry, it is totally unimportant. If you have read through all of the above information you should be fairly well versed in what’s involved in colour matching mortar and also be wise to the fact that it can be quite a long drawn out affair, but if you want the best finish, then sometimes you’ve just got to be prepared to work for it. CSA A 3001 is the Canadian Standards Association standard for Cementitious Materials for Use in Concrete. The portland cement nomenclature is the same as C 1157. The blended cement nomenclature builds off those designations. As with the ASTM specifications, white cement could be specified under the portland cement designation, but would not likely be specified under the blended cement specifications. See CSA Groupfor more information. When it comes to strength both mixes will perform to a similar high level, and much of the discussion around differences in strength is still speculative, differing from brand to brand. Both will only achieve their full strength and durability potential when mixed into concrete.

Essentially, there is no science involved in matching a sand and cement mix to that of your existing wall or property, it’s really just a question of trial and error and also possibly a little research. The key to this whole process is consistency with the mix ratio. If you have a lot of pointing or repair work to do then to maintain a consistent colour match from your first mix to your last, everyone has to be the same. Surface coloring can be removed with some patience and muriatic or hydrochloric acid, but mixed colors are permanent. Before you add colors, look at a sample of how the pigmentation performs if possible. The unmixed color is usually darker than the mixed one will be, but manufacturers differ. Cement Coloring FAQ What is the easiest way to color concrete? Get in touch with any local historians or custodians of local monuments or historic buildings as it is likely that they will know exactly where the majority of original materials used were sourced from.

Why Match Mortar Colours?

From concrete plastisicers and mortar water proofers to cement accelerators, retarders, dyes and everything in between, we’ve got it at Selco. Under no circumstances should you ever change the cement to sand ratio of a mortar mix for a new mix so that it’s different from any existing mortar just to ensure a colour match! This may affect structural integrity

Accelerators help to speed up the setting and hardening process of cement and mortar, whilst retarders slow it down. If you’re looking for a concrete waterproofer additive, many of our accelerators, retarders and plasticisers include waterproofing and frost-proofing qualities as an added benefit. Please find some colour examples from the pictures below. More will be added soon. Colours may vary depending on many factors such as the brand of cement used, the colour of sand used, the ratio's of stone and sand used etc. Computer monitor settings and angle at which you view your monitor will also lighten or darken the colour shades. So please use this chart as a guide only.As we have mentioned, as the sand used in a mix makes up the bulk of the actual mix itself, it has the greatest effect on the overall colour, so to get a good match, it’s really essential to identify it. Our cement plasticiser range includes Bond It’s Water-Resistant Plasticiser which improves the workability of concrete and mortar in its wet state whilst also doubling as a cement waterproofer. The Sealoproof Cement Waterproofer creates a durable waterproof finish while also acting as a cement and render retarder to slow down the setting process, whilst Sealomix’s Mortar Plasticiser supplies added strength to concrete and adds frost-resistance against freezing and thawing. Now, pour your sand solution gently over the top. The tights will act as a sieve, allowing the remaining water/acid solution to drain off, leaving you with just your sand.
