About this deal

Also, Oliver uses mixed media in his illustrations and this is an area that we really needed to develop. This allows his brain to do the most interesting thing, it internalises all the info out of each book until. How To Catch A Star is a beautiful debut picture book from an extremely talented and innovative illustrator.

Now living in New York, he works as a painter, designer, printmaker and installation artist, but remains very busy making picture books. How to Catch a Star (2004), the first of them, was inspired by a Brer Rabbit story he read as a child. Jeffers became passionate about making picture books when he began to understand the subtle relationship between words and pictures –‘that was what excited me. Not a book I'm crazy about, personally, but it works for even older elementary school students, so it's good to have on hand. The child I was reading this too got such a huge giggle from the word 'boke' we had to read that specific page many times! My kids still just scribble on everything and eat the crayons (They are 1 and 2 yrs old) but I hope someday to get to this point.

In 2007, Jeffers was the official illustrator for World Book Day, and in 2008 Lost and Found became Oliver's first book to made into animation by London-based Studio AKA. The Incredible Book-Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers is a fabulous fun story for younger readers about having an appetite for reading!

I thoroughly loved how in Henry's lowest overall point of the book where he stops eating them, he discovers a love for reading! As a picture book creator Oliver Jeffers has been the recipient of some of children's books highest accolades, including the Nestle Gold Medal for Lost and Found and the Irish Picture Book of the Year for The Incredible Book Eating Boy. Fun fact: Seeing the little bite taken out of the back of the book led one of my coworkers to confess that as a child, she used to chew on her headboard at night. Now, if you want to find out what happens to Henry after eating too many books you'll need to pick this up yourself.
