About this deal

For the week that ended on October 9th, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's F9: The Fast Saga topped both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts for the third week in a row, while Walt Disney Home Entertainment's Black Widow held onto second place . Several years before his Batman trilogy, Christian Bale brought the enigmatic psycho, Patrick Bateman, to life in a superior adaptation of American Psycho.

Through it all, Christian Bale delivers the performance that arguably helped make his career what it is today ( Reign of Fire notwithstanding). Sit back, relax, and turn on some Phil Collins, because American Psycho: Uncut Version arrives on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital) September 25th from Lionsgate. Black levels are nice and inky and give the image a new sense of three-dimensional depth that was absent in the previous SDR Blu-ray release. In all my years of watching interviews and listening to commentaries, I have never encountered a human being as irritating or disagreeable as Guinevere Turner.First released by Universal Studios Home Entertainment in 2000 in separate Unrated and R-rated versions, it was later snapped up by Lionsgate, who reissued the film in a more feature-packed special edition in 2005, also available in separate uncut and still-safe-for-theaters configurations. Instead, Lionsgate produced a fresh batch of supplements for their 2005 "Killer Collector's Edition," and about 75 percent of them are ported over to this Blu-ray version. The film makes an immediately striking upgrade over its previous, distinctly flawed Blu-ray release, which was extremely soft and riddled with DNR, and also suffered from some very variable grain levels. I don't just mean that it features the same old transfer, although yes it does; but it's the exact same disc, with the same alternate set of special features, the same label and everything. True, he didn't don the cape and cowl for a few years after this film's premiere, but one can't help look at his Patrick Bateman and see a little bit of his future Bruce Wayne sitting there.

The film has a very Hitchcock-meets-Kubrick feeling of sterility, with a great deal of whites and other clean surfaces, accented by hard blue and deep red. The color timing's shifted, too, ultimately looking a bit greener and darker, but on a 4k screen, they definitely sizzle more than any previous edition. The Metropolitan disc kept the featurette, trailers and interviews, as well as dug up a bunch more of those interview clips, divided into arbitrary categories like "My Life" and "Newspaper Killer. I just don’t want people to confuse my praise with the likes of a clean, crisp modern day release, etc.

It may not have seemed like it back then, but there’s no denying those are truly some big names in nowadays standards. The film also enjoys a nice Dolby Vision HDR push that breaths a lot of new life into the film's color pallet. A whole breed of people are trying to make independent films with the idea of making money and getting laid," says Turner. I hadn't seen the film all the way through in almost 14 years and I was worried that the film had passed its expiration date.
