About this deal

The mantis has two pairs of wings. For each set, I made a pattern of one side, then cut two of each out of the foam wood underlayment. It comes in a giant roll and is very light and easy to work with, as well as being slightly see-through. It’s hard being a Praying Mantis. All the other bugs at school make fun of you for not having a dad, even though it’s completely normal in your species for the mom to rip off and eat the dad’s head. Sure, it’s a brutal and unnecessary custom, but does that make it so wrong? After the last few years we’ve had, I think it’s time we pull out all the funny Halloween costumes for women. I’m sure you’ve already got the kids and your partner all set for their costumes, but it’s time to focus on yours. I think it would be appropriate to dress up as a Care Bear this year, because we need someone to shoot some love, happiness, and magic out of their abdomen for the entire world. Or perhaps even a Barbie doll in honor of the new Barbie movie coming out next year for a little fun. But whatever you call the praying mantis, its name is only one vowel off from the mantises’ real defining characteristic—preying.

When I was done, I made a final pattern and cut the shapes out of EVA foam. I rounded out the edges with the dremel, then heat gunned them into shape. Only the claw needed to be glued together using Barge. The arm structure consists of two parts: forearm and claw. The forearm is a piece of tri-folded cardboard and the claw is a cardboard tube cut and taped into a pointier, more insect-like shape. The outside of the forearm was painted with green acrylic and topped with a polymer clear coat, but the rest they covered with green felt. Jagged edges in the felt were added to the edges to give a more accurate look. Be proud of your heritage, young bug. Go off into the world free from judgment or prejudice. Feel free to be the best bug that you can be! Product Details A praying mantis is harmless to humans, but deadly to grasshoppers. And a mantis has its own predators to watch out for. Mantids use all these refined methods to catch other insects—though the larger of the 2,500 mantis species will also eat small reptiles, amphibians, and birds.I made everything out of cardboard first. It was a lengthy process of matching it to her arm, keeping the overall mantis look, and making it fit the other pieces when she moved her arm. I added paper, cut paper, etc, until I got the shape I desired. To create the 'arms', take a couple of sheets of foam and glue down the long edge to create a tube, making sure that the hands of the person you're making fit snugly into one end; almost like gloves.

The base of each leg began as a triangular roll of cardboard, angled to fit flat against the leg base harness. I then connected it to another, smaller, tube using the same joint connection but in two spots, and reinforced it with cardboard. After, I used brown paper and wood glue to paper-mache it for further strength and durability. The smaller size tube allowed the leg to slide onto the main base for easy removal and wear. Then I cut the visor into a rounded point and also cut two lengths of foam to make antennae. Photo Credit: The Listed Home. Next, cut a single line — from the edge of the circle to the centre — through each circle; then overlap the edges and glue them together, creating a shallow cone shape.A smart collection of books, magazines, electronics kits, robots, microcontrollers, tools, supplies, and more The mandibles were made from straws cut into pieces and glued into shape, then covered in paper mache. To begin, draw round a bowl, to create a couple of circles on one of the sleets of foam, then cut them out with a pair of scissors.
