About this deal

The Return Of The Living Dead: The Dead Have Risen – Interviews With Cast Members Clu Gulager, James Karen, Don Calfa, Thom Mathews, Beverly Randolph, Linnea Quigley And More… The Return of the Living Dead isn’t a favorite zombie film of mine but still is fairly entertaining with some respectable makeup effects. This 4K set released by Shout does have excellent video and adequate audio and although there are no new features, the bonus materials ported over from the previous Blu-ray release was fantastic.

Gary Smart (Co-author of ‘The Complete History of The Return of the Living Dead) and Chris Griffiths The Origins of 'Return of the Living Dead'" (15:12, HD) is an interview with John A. Russo, the co-producer of "Night of

Bonus Features for UHD/Blu-ray

In Their Own Words: The Zombies Speak— This is a pretty weak attempt at comedy, pretending like zombies are making random comments at the movie. Designing The Dead (HD, 13:39) – Another archival featurette. This one features director Dan O’Bannon and his approach to creating his unique zombies for the film. William Stout also is here to chime in on his work in the film. The FX Of The Return Living Dead – With Production Designer William Stout, FX Make-up Artists William Munns, Tony Gardner, Kenny Myers And Craig Caton-Largnet, Visual Effects Artists Bret Mixon And Gene Warren Jr. (Expanded Version) Party Time (HD, 30 min) — A great piece on the music and song selections with the highlight being interviews with Dinah Cancer of 45 Grave and Greg Hetson of Circle Jerks. The FX of The Return of the Living Dead (32:49) — Featurette that delves into the impressive special effects including animatronics.

The Return of the Living Dead – Collector’s Edition is 3-Disc set (1 4K, 2 Blu-ray). Besides audio commentary and subtitle bonus features, all bonus is found between the 2 standard Blu-ray discs. My uncle introduced me to a lot of horror films in my early days of lusting for blood soaked, nail biting cinema. A lot of times they’d be in the form of a VHS tape he’d get me for my birthday. One year, it was The Return Of The Living Dead. And man, this was a crazy new experience. I was on board from the moment this thing started. Seeing this before I ever saw Dawn Of The Dead, I took it as a direct follow up to Night of the Living Dead. Except, it had a group of kids I could more or less relate with and years enhancement in make up and gore effects. The film really was, most importantly, its own beast. As a zombie movie, I loved it and also as a horror-comedy I dug it because I hadn’t see much of what that angle of the genre had to offer beyond stuff like Abbott & Costello and Love at First Bite. The FX of the Living Dead (HD, 33 min) — Essentially, a collection of interviews with various crew members talking about the look and design of the zombies with awesome concept art. Horror’s Hallowed Grounds (HD, 10:15) – I kinda sorta love these. Sean Clark takes to the locations for the film to see what they look like today. distinct, and town tours provide strong dimension. Signage and decoration are also open for inspection. Color is vibrant, handling punk hair and outfitsKiller Animatronics– Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy transform from cute and cuddly into creepy and killer through a combination of costumed performers and cutting-edge puppetry. The Return of the Living Dead has become a staple in the horror genre for punkers and zombie fans alike, and its influence has spread in countless ways. It helped to define a new breed of zombie – the brain eater – rather than the shambling mindless dead of George A. Romero’s Living Dead franchise. It fueled many adolescents’ wet dreams thanks to a fully nude Linnea Quigley, albeit with a mold upon her pubis. It ushered a new horror icon into fans’ hearts with Tarman, the melting origin zombie. It also recapitulated the allure of EC Comics-era imagery, from its gothic locales to the humorous signs and decorations found throughout the film. But probably The Return of the Living Dead‘s most important contribution to horror was its interplay of terror, gore, and dark humor – a difficult combination to pull off, but director Dan O’Bannon manages to perfectly encapsulate how those elements go together like zombies and flesh. With Gary Smart (Co-author of The Complete History of The Return of the Living Dead) & Chris Griffiths The extra features are contained to the Blu-ray disc and a second disc of bonus extras, all of which were included on the previous Blu-ray so we won’t review them in full here. Please see the list of extras included with time stamps, as well as our screenshot gallery, for more details on these extras. EXTRA FEATURES The Return of the Living Dead 4K Blu-ray delivers great video and audio in this excellent Blu-ray release
