About this deal

At 14mm now, the corners sharpen up nicely and as we’d hope to expect, they are entirely serviceable with the same caveat of staying at or wider than f/8 because from f/11 onward, diffraction makes a mess of these files, everywhere. This distortion is then corrected in software throughout the process of viewing and taking a photograph, in a fashion that means few photographers will even notice that it’s going on, let alone care. This is the best way I can describe ‘proximity distortion’ in that keeping your subjects further away, even when positioned in the same area of the frame, will give you a better chance at keeping them looking the way they should.

MPB Europe Ltd acts as a broker and offers credit solely from PayPal Credit, a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH. I’ve illustrated this below with photos from each lens, and while the spikes on the Olympus look a little better-defined in this example, the most important aspect to achieving the best result with an ultra wide at a tiny aperture is to keep the front element meticulously clean. Built-in petal-type lens hood helps to alleviate stray light from causing flare and also adds some protection from accidental impacts to the front element. With the launch of the much-anticipated and long awaited Olympus OM-D E-M1 mark 2, you’re now able to find lots of offers and bundles on Olympus PRO lenses too.Linear Distortion: As is becoming common in m4/3, there's a huge difference between whether you look at this lens with the Olympus supplied corrections (in-camera JPEGs and many raw converters), or you look at the bare raw data. You get the same type of rendition as the other Pro lenses: good sharpness, good contrast and vibrant colours.

Olympus won’t produce an optional filter holder so we will have to wait for a third party manufacturer to do it. For an old guy like me, the “full retro” (“never go full retro” — Tropic Thunder joke, sorry) control implementation just seems natural. I’m on Fuji now but in micro four thirds I owned both the 9-18mm Olympus and the 7-14mm Panasonic and they were both excellent in their own right.

Not the chewy, chocolatey kind sadly but these cookies are useful to help show you relevant content. For PFRE stuff, I’d imagine it should do well as most all images will be viewed on screen, or in smaller print via flyers or the like. When photographing people, you can get lots of distortion at 7mm especially if your subjects are not in the centre and are close to the lens.
