About this deal

A 19 date UK concert tour begins on 8 June, followed by a'Highlands and Islands' mini-tour of Scotland in September. Also in January she presents a new 13 week series, "The Afternoon Show", for the BBC alongside Penny Junor. In June Barbara takes part in the Tokyo Music Festival and wins Bronze Prize for her self-penned song, 'Second Sight.' In August the album "Don't Think Twice It's All Right" is released on Columbia Records - it reaches # 32 on the UK album chart. Barbara continues to play live locally - venues include the Kinema Ballroom, The Green Tree and the Belleville Hotel in Dunfermline plus a residency at the Rosyth Hotel.

Barbara joins 'The Great Fife Road Show' and tours Scotland with artists including Rab Noakes, Davey Stewart and Cilla Fisher. Barbara readily admits that she would have been happy to continue her life as a travelling folk musician, but a meeting with an old friend, musician andplaywright Willy Russell, in Liverpool in the early 70s was to change the course of her career completely. The Liverpool Arts and Entertainment Awards name Barbara as Best Actress in Theatre ActressIn Theatre for the show. November sees Barbara in the USA again - she films a walk-on role in "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in Los Angeles.

The show was a huge success and after a sell-out Liverpool season it transferred to London’s West End After seeing Barbara’s performance in the show, impresario Robert Stigwood, the head of RSO Records, signed her to his label.

The album "All For A Song" is released in February, reaches #3 in the UK album charts and goes platinum. In January Barbara stars in the premiere of Willy Russell's new musical, "Blood Brothers" at the Liverpool Playhouse. She then plays live in New Zealand, at the Wellington Arts Festival, and makes a promotional visit to Australia. Throughout her career Barbara has achieved countless accolades including 2 Olivier Awards for her role in Blood Brothers and Spend Spend Spend plus she was awarded an OBE from Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II in 2002.In 2017, Barbara narrated the acclaimed ‘Ballads of Child Migration’, the success of which led to a major UK tour the following year, closely followed by a tour of ‘Far, Far From Ypres’, the award-winning story of the Scottish war effort during the First World War. She signs a new deal with CBS Records and records "Sweet Oasis", her debut album for the label in Los Angeles. Barbara's third single for the label, "Answer Me," provides her first hit, reaching # 9 on the UK chart. A civil servant by day, Barbara performs in folk clubs by night and at weekends. She contributes a song, 'The Waters of Tyne', to the privately-pressed LP 'Folksong '65'.

She flies home to Britain to promote her second hit, "Another Suitcase In Another Hall," from "Evita," which reaches UK # 18. An appearance at the Big Stone Celtic festival in Virginia in 2014 led to an invitation to return to play again for American audiences two year later. Another privately-issued album, "Folk Song '67" is released via Scottish folk clubs and includes Barbara's live recording of 'The Dreadnought'. Barbara receives the Sir Reo Stakis Pride of Scotland lifetime achievement Award at the Tartan Clef Awards in November.A 26 date tour of the UK and Ireland follows in February and March. Also in February, Barbara presents the BBC Folk Awards with Mike Harding.
