About this deal

Davies, compiles thousands of fictional and imaginary locations set in the real world from film, television, literature, myths, comics, computer games and many other historical and modern sources. The 14 cities covered are Berlin, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, Paris, Rio, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, Venice and Washington DC. Find out how to get to Sesame Street, where to join Starfleet and thousands of other places besides, in this indispensable guidebook to all those places you always wanted to visit – if only they were real. It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. Matt Brown is author of 11 books for Batsford, using his trademark humour and playfulness as tools to explore the world.

These delightful Where’s Waldo-esque maps are the creation of freelance artist and map designer, Mike Hall, whose oeuvre includes maps and diagrams of real-life botanic gardens, university campuses and hotel resorts, railways, major cities and even entire countries. The authors even claim to have found a plausible location for Springfield from the Simpsons, despite that show being notoriously coy and tricksy about its whereabouts. Nevertheless, this fascinating book is essential for any map enthusiast or devotee of popular culture. You'll also find the routes of fictional car chases, speedboat pursuits in Venice, the pilgrimage path of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, and much more.

Sometimes these are easy to work out but other times a bit of detective work is needed and the authors have been those detectives. Accompanying the maps are illuminating essays that explain how the authors came to their decisions, along with explorations of the key locations and fun timelines of imaginary events.

Often, it's obvious from the source material, but sometimes a bit of detective-work is needed to pinpoint a fictional home, business or event. The maps also pinpoint dozens of famous fictional organisations and businesses — Central Perk, Ghostbusters HQ, Torchwood, Cyberdyne Sytems, Sterling Cooper, Tyrell Corporation, to name just a few of the more famous examples. And then there's East Cheam, which will be immediately obvious to older, British readers (an invention of Tony Hancock). This was one of the more challenging maps to design, in that there are no precedents for maps of both regions together on the same projection (besides maps of the whole world or the continent of Asia). Here can be seen Antillia, a phantom island reputed to exist in the 15th century and which was depicted on several maps at the time. It's the sequel to 2021's award-winning Atlas of Imagined Places, and started out as a Londonist project. London remains at the heart of the project, with hundreds of fictional places spread over four pages.

Here can be seen illustrations depicting Dracula, a scene from The Prisoner of Zenda, the Grand Budapest Hotel from the Wes Anderson film of the same name, and Rapunzel's tower.

Each map is enlivened by small colour illustrations, depicting characters and scenes from various sources featured on each map.

However, all text labels are curved or rotated to maintain the sense of curvature in the projections. From Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot to superhero Wakanda, from Lilliput of Gulliver's Travels to Springfield in The Simpsons, a wondrous atlas of imagined places around the world. Instead, labels set in an open serif typeface mark the rough locations of fictional countries and empires. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. Or that two major characters from Doctor Who and Star Trek lived in the same small part of San Francisco? For more details, please consult the latest information provided by Royal Mail's International Incident Bulletin. Besides the city maps, artfully drawn by illustrator Mike Hall, the book also includes plenty of mini-essays exploring the fiction of the 14 cities.
