About this deal

McClintock illustrated this aged tale of the Gingerbread Man fleeing from the little old woman, the butcher with his knife and so on. Recommended for children aged 4+, the eight levels of Readers and Activity Books follow the CEFR framework (Pre-A1 to A2+) and include language activities that help develop key skills and provide preparation for the Cambridge English: Young Learners (YLE) exams.

From author Paul Galdone, best known for his ink and wash illustrations that grace the pages of his many classic fairy tales books. The gingerbread man ran out the door away from the man and woman, and the butcher and so on and he continued to boast that they could not catch him. However, there were several variations of the story circulating in lots of different cultures all over the world. Many renditions have been made of the tale, but this one- written by Jim Aylesworth- happens to be a favorite of mine. Ok - so we all know the story - no one can catch him after he escapes from the oven until he makes the mistake of trusting the fox at the end.

This book could also be used to teach sentence fluency because the sentences flow together nicely and have a rhythmic quality. In the 1890 version by Joseph Jacobs, the hero was Johnny-Cake, but we have changed him to the more familiar Gingerbread Man. The Gingerbread man goes on an adventure through the town and runs away from others whom are trying to eat him. This version features a Cajun cornbread boy on the run; you can’t catch him because he’s full of cayenne! The book has a lot of repetition of “run run as fast as you can, can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.Our mission is to elevate early childhood education as a profession, and to provide the leadership, support, and resources pre-k and preschool teachers need to help their students succeed. for the little girls, and then she said, “I’m going to make a little gingerbread man for little Bobby.

Jan Brett’s beautifully detailed illustrations paired with this sweet (no pun intended) and unique version of the classic tale makes this a must read for everybody, I love it just as much as the kids! I would pass out a cookie to each of my students and let them decorate themselves as if they were infact in the story as the gingerbread men. This book is a fun read and it would be ideal to use it when learning about the parts of a story, beginning, middle, and end, characters, plot, summary, setting, etc. The illustrations take up a little more than half of each page leaving the text to be a backdrop in the landscape. and promptly bit off the end of the monkey’s tail, and Jocko quickly jumped off again, chattering his indignation. The pig was very hungry, so it pulled itself up from the mud and joined the cockerel, the dog, the cat, the old woman and her husband, chasing the gingerbread man. I think this would be good to read to a younger group of children and the moral of not talking to strangers could be tied into it. On the positive side, I loved the sort of wild abandon with which this gingerbread man taunted everyone he met and then ran on, head fling back with glee. He said, "I’ve outrun an old man, an old woman, a little boy, two well diggers, and two ditch diggers, and I can outrun you too-o-o! The classic tale of the runaway Gingerbread Man, who escapes his hungry creators, as well as a string of others met upon the road, before his fateful encounter with a fox, is here retold by the marvelously talented Jim Aylesworth and Barbara McClintock, whose other projects include Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Tale of Tricky Fox, and (most recently) The Mitten.

When I was in high school though, I read the Grimms Brothers' version of this story and I was shocked by the difference between kids versions and the old versions.Other than that, it is the typical traditional version of running around town evading people and taunting them as he goes.
