Chris Kane is a tall, lean man who is violent and very possessive of his girlfriend, Cathy. When Cathy and her son escape, Chris, likely being mentally unstable, vows to hunt them down. Throughout the novel, Danny refers to him as 'the Animal'. At times, Chris can be charming, though he often loses control of his temper. In the past, Chris has already had several brushes with the law, and ends up imprisoned in the novel. Despite this, he remains deranged and continues to desire control of Cathy and Danny. Chris also refers to himself as ‘Chrissy Boy’ and others refer to him as ‘the animal.’Evaluation/Recommendation: I enjoyed this book because I got connected to Danny, the main character, who goes through struggles to get away from the monster and stand up for him self. I recommend this book to everyone above the age of 11 because if you any younger, you will not understand the problems in the book. It's very clever the way Gibbons put a split narrative. At first Danny and his mother Cathy run away from her boyfriend, Chris. When they reach 'The Edge' at Cathy's parents house, the grandfather doesn't welcome Danny because of his skin colour. He is, at the beginning, a very prejudice... Sasha is a strong girl, i felt sorry for what happen to her in the past. Dex, annoying but hot neighbour. I love how he protect Sasha from her ex. It's dual pov book by the way... Abbie: Danny’s best friend, who gets caught in all of this, Chris Kane will stop at anything to get information, even if it id through Abbie.

Bart the Bear, a trained Kodiak bear known for appearances in several Hollywood movies, appears in the film as the bloodthirsty Kodiak, in one of his last film roles. It's a good story, very readable, and the multiple perspectives are great. Definitely deserves its award and should be at the top of every young adults list.

It was fasted paced. A very easy novel about running from a boyfriend who is nasty to your mum and setting up a life in a place that you grew up in.A really easy read! One of the first books I read after graduating from university. University had a way of making me hate reading... Danny: He feels powerless and he is always scared of what Chris could do, and when he gets given the chance to escape he takes it, and does everything to help his mum escape. But they do, but other things start happening. Ex-Army Ranger Travis Devine spent his time in the military preparing to take on any scenario, followed by his short-lived business career chasing shadows in the deepest halls of power, so his analytical mind makes him particularly well-suited for complex, high-stakes tasks.
