About this deal

The characters are flexible and human, the dialogue is very realistic and her imagining of our contact with an alien species is very down to earth and sweet and creative at the same time. The truth was she had used that money on a Neko Case concert, her third this year, but Demi didn’t need to know that. She hadn’t really been paying attention to NPR’s Morning Edition, which had been reporting something about the previous day’s wild fluctuation of the Dow Jones, but their next segment made her shoot to attention. I was super engaged during the middle of the book where the human character have some pretty in-depth conversations. Ampersand relates to her feelings, having been forced to kill his transient captors to escape captivity.

It might be that Obelus is less concerned with politeness and more just seizing a chance to sow dissension between Ampersand and his interpreter under the guise of civility by giving her a very grim appraisal of Ampersand's nature. she said, now kicking herself for being in a situation where she was trapped in an elevator with this man. Cora and Ampersand argue over cultural differences between humans and amygdalines, and Cora storms off.

An alternate history first contact adventure set in the early 2000's, pitched as Arrival meets The Three-Body Problem, by video essayist Lindsay Ellis. It's built up throughout the book as something he had to do for the greater good, but it's ultimately subverted. In an alternate version of the United States in 2007, famous whistleblower Nils Ortega leverages his large online following to repeatedly attack the Bush administration, alleging a series of government cover-ups. Though he agrees, he notes that, given their disparate constitutions, they will never truly know each other. Axiom's End is a story about humanity encountering an alien race, only to find the aliens are almost impossible to communicate with due to the total absence of common frames of reference.

Ampersand broke containment from the Transient prison he was being held in, then traveled through deep space to rescue Ĉefo. Obelus overpowers and severely wounds both Cora and the Genome before they are transported away by Ampersand. A whistleblower goes public with evidence that the US government has been in communication with an alien intelligence and flees to Germany. Imagine transformers if it had been taken seriously and written and dealt with by an intelligent human being.Axiom's End is a science fiction novel by YouTuber and video essayist Lindsay Ellis about humanity's First Contact with extraterrestrial life. Ever since she’d started temping here a couple of weeks ago, Eli had been one of the first people who had taken a special interest in her, and for the worst possible reasons.

In a video uploaded to YouTube on July 19, 2020, Ellis announced that the second and third books in the Axiom's End series would be released in summer 2021 and 2022. At first, he saw her as an in where The Broken Seal was concerned and then, when he realized she wasn’t, he turned cold. Upon waking up, she realizes that Ampersand has arrived with the Genome, but is refusing to turn it over.

There will be sequels - the book is touted as the first in the Noumena sequence - but the book has a fair amount of closure to it and no immediate cliffhangers.

He is particularly disturbed to be surrounded by (to quote the title of Part Two) "billions of flesh-eating aliens", and Cora speculates that his initial apprehension around her is out of fear that she will try to take a bite of him. She neither knows nor cares whether her fathers leaks are a hoax, and wants nothing to do with himuntil she learns just how deeply entrenched her family is in the cover-up, and that an extraterrestrial presence has been on Earth for decades. On her way to lunch, however, the dread only now starting to subside, she spared a glance out the window, at the roof deck of the parking garage several stories below. She turned to face forward, watching the tall buildings of downtown LA sprouting up like distant spires in the haze, and tried to put thoughts of The Broken Seal and stalkers from her mind. The relationship between the two of them never felt strange, and the fact that he's so alien helped this. There's something that happens towards the end of the book where it looks like Ampersand might be revealed to be a villain, and it made my heart break. Niles paints Cora as a crazy alien collaborator and an accomplice in the deaths of several CIA agents, and is promised a hero's welcome in the US for his efforts. To save her own life, she offers her services as an interpreter to a monster, and the monster accepts.
