About this deal

Even the directions seem like they are copied from Google translate with several tense issue and plenty of things that aren't clearly explained. I’m drawing two dangers from the left one, one of which Crusoe is going to have to face, and then I’m drawing cards from the right one which represent his attempts to tackle them.

So, you decide to teach him how to survive (not because you're nice, mind you, but because you really want him to gain the survival skills needed to leave the island by defeating pirates). However, if the cards drawn from the Robinson deck fail to meet or exceed the hazard’s fight value, you will lose the difference between the two in health points. If you’ve played the game before, you’ll figure out the app easier than someone like me who didn’t know how to play. I wanted more challenges to face, rather than just drawing another “Wild animals” or “Further exploring the island” card. Finally the player will use their optimized fight deck to defeat two evil pirate ships allowing Robinson Crusoe to escape the island! It’s also very challenging, and it takes quite a while to figure out how to win, even on the easy level (which isn’t exactly easy). Beat up to 1024 players in a tournament with synchronized games to become the true King of the Island. If failed the player will lose life tokens but also get the opportunity to remove played cards from their fight deck. In my mind the answer is yes, but in reality it's probably because the part of board gaming that I enjoy is the social aspect. In saying that, the design is well thought through and there are so many helpful indicators of progress that it’s quite difficult to lose your place in the game, a necessity for any solo adventure.

I noticed and thought I'd comment on a couple things, one is you can tailor you strategy, slightly anyway, depending on what pirates you know are coming, that's nice because it adds a little more depth. You play as Friday, and when Robinson Crusoe crashes his ship on your island, your peaceful times are disturbed.

There’s strange additions that don’t exist in the original rulebook that make the game mostly just more annoying to play. I also love the fact that Friday prevents you from doing a fairly standard deck building strategy of trashing most of your deck to only leave the best cards because, if your deck becomes too small, you will get aging cards very quickly.

There were several games where I was trying to remember "did I remember to add an aging card here" and "oops, let me reset that last battle, I was on yellow not green". Quick, easy-to-learn game play and hard challenges means Friday will be a permanent staple in my board game collection. Our sessions take place in the Heritage Centre where the lighting is subdued, and the video monitors can be switched off if required. You will go through the hazard deck three times (with it getting progressively harder), and then if Robinson is still alive, he fights two pirates. After placing the chosen hazard in the middle of the tableau, you will draw as many cards from the Robinson deck as you wish, from the indicated allowance on the hazard card, placing them to the left of the hazard. The doors to the Heritage Centre can be partly closed to create a quieter environment, but sound from the café and the gym will be heard. Stranded Crusoe starts off as a largely clueless man who has no idea how he’s going to get food, equipment or HBO.
