About this deal

Yorkshire born and raised, Alexandra lives in London with her Californian husband and their Bosnian rescue dog. When she's not writing or travelling, she's getting out into nature, trying not to look at her phone and navigating this thing called mid-life.

In der ganzen Geschichte herrscht so eine angenehme Atmosphäre, was es mir fast unmöglich machte, das Buch aus der Hand zu legen. Each of our protein bars has over 20% protein - we use pea protein as it has the lowest carbon footprint, whilst fava protein has a low salt content. Better for you and easier on the planet. Liv’s other big distraction is the renovation of her cottage, a task that serves as the perfect metaphor for her own step-by-step transformation as she rebuilds her life. The article featuring an interview with our CEO Kieran Stanbridge takes a deep dive into our disruptive new technology, as well as our ambitious plans for the future. 💛🐝 It has humour, sadness, hope and a real positive feel to the book. I also loved hearing all the descriptions of the building work and renovations to the cottage Liv moved into. With some evocative descriptions, a picture of chaos, dust and rubble is transformed over time into something that sounded idyllic. Just like the cottage renovations, with time, Liv rebuilds her own life into something much better than it ever was, while helping others in the village to see there is still life after loss, it’s just a different life. Liv is a wonderful woman and I thought she grew to be so strong as the book went on as though she was telling herself “I am coming through this on top of the world”. I like being able to read and follow the developments from heartbreak to happiness. But Liv soon discovers she isn’t the only one in need of a new beginning. On their daily walks around the village, they meet Valentine, an old man who suffers from loneliness who sits by the window and Stanley, a little boy who is scared of everyone, hides behind the garden gate and Maya, a teenager who is angry at everyone and everything. But slowly things start to change… The story revolves around Liv, a middle-aged divorcée, who abandons her home and teaching career in London, and heads off to the Yorkshire Dales to reinvent herself. Liv is bruised, lonely and adrift, and struggling to adjust to her new circumstances, when she adopts aging rescue dog, Harry. And it’s Harry that turns out to be her ‘one good thing’.

I found this book so easy to read. It's not thrilling, or suspenseful, or sexy, or overly comedic, but what it is is so incredibly comforting. It doesn't take long for Liv to start coming out of her shell, talking to residents and even adopting a dog (obviously I loved this character too, yey for Harry) There are some surprising turns of events at the book progresses and I really enjoyed discovering them. This was a gifted book in exchange for my honest review. With gifted books, I always feel such a pressure to ‘like’ them, because if I don’t, I feel ungrateful. There was none of that with this book. I genuinely loved it, I didn’t want to stop reading, but I also didn’t want to read it too fast because I didn’t want it to end! If I could rate it higher than five stars I honestly would. It was such a feel good book, about starting again, and I just honestly loved it so much.
