During a fight with the Kingpin's men, Spider-Man is attacked by several symbiote-infected civilians, and decides to investigate. It starts out the way it normally does in most Spider-Man games, but as the game progresses, more and more people get infected with symbiotes, and the city eventually becomes consumed by them. Instead of cutscenes, the game features dialogue trees, during which the player must select Spider-Man's replies from several different options, which can make Spider-Man appear respectful, mean, or neutral. He also explains that Spider-Man's previous encounters with the symbiote gives him more control over it, though he warns him that the symbiote can still influence his behavior.While entirely optional and not required for completing the game, these events reward the player with XP, which can be used to unlock new fighting moves/combos for Spider-Man. The story goes to great lengths to explain how the symbiote-repulsion technology will stop symbiotes to protect the people, yet Spider-Man can safely pass through it, despite having a symbiote attached to him. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows gives you an unprecedented level of gameplay choice, including, for the first time, control over the game's direction and outcome. Spider-Man is ambushed by residents controlled by a symbiote while attempting to defend several gang leaders from assassins. If you want to see where any Spidey Icon is that you’ve yet acquired, collect 1,000 Spidey Icons or get to level ten.

Despite the fact that Mary Jane Parker is about a hundred pounds and has a broken arm, she can fight off symbiotes and fire a shotgun one-handed. It is a great game, but the erratic camera ruins it in places (Amazing Spider Man's camera is far, far smoother). The 360 version offers the usual compliment of achievement points, which adds a fair amount to the open world structure of the game. The story takes about eight hours to plow through if you do nothing but the primary missions, though there are nearly a hundred extra missions to complete that also net you bonus experience (and Achievements in some cases), which should keep you occupied for a good, long while, and as there are four different endings to see, there’s enough content to the game to play through it at LEAST twice.Now, in fairness, since the game DOES save every couple of minutes, this is less game-breaking than it is annoying, and it only happened two or three times, but THIS IS A CONSOLE GAME and should not be happening, the end.
