I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction, but my mom recommended it and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I have to admit that I am not normally drawn to historical/romance/western, but after reading what THE WHIP was written about, I could not turn it away.As a woman in the Old West, it was impossible to live your dreams – unless you were happy to be a wife, teacher (only if you could read) or prostitute. One day you see their face across a rickety table or you pass them hurrying from here to there, or you see them leave your bed; and their profile passes you by…and you don’t know…your thoughts somewhere else.

It feels that her secret is alternately urgently well-hidden or not so necessarily hidden depending on the circumstance, and the differences feel more contrived for plot than realistic consistency.The Whip, successfully gives the reader a sense of what it was like to be a stagecoach driver, and it left me wanting to know more about the real life of Charley Parkhurst. However, sanctions for breaching the whip can include reduced prospects of promotion within the party, or selection for unpopular parliamentary duties, such as membership of delegated legislation committees. The vision of Charley on the driver’s box, sweaty, dirty, whipping the six-team, powerful and brave as any man.
