About this deal

If you’ve been there, you know many of the patrons come by boat and anchor just off the beach. To get to this Caribbean beach bar, they have to swim ashore arriving with wet dollar bills, thus the term “soggy dollar!” Instructions: Shake all the ingredients except the nutmeg and the pineapple slice. Pour into your glass with ice and put nutmeg and the pineapple slice on top. Simply shake ingredients except for the nutmeg together and pour it into a tall glass filled with ice. Instructions: In your blender, mix the rums and strawberries and blend. Rinse your blender, and combine pineapple juice, banana, and coconut cream; blend well.

Instructions: In your blender, blend all the ingredients until smooth. Pour in your glasses and garnish with grated nutmeg or shaved chocolate.Ground nutmeg — If you’re looking for something to top your painkiller drink, there is simply nothing better than ground nutmeg, with its savory and rich flavor. But, if you’re looking to make some substitutions, you could get away with ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and maybe even with allspice. Instructions: Mix all the liquid ingredients over ice in your serving glass. Garnish with a fresh orange wheel, and enjoy. At the Soggy Dollar bar, I was amazed to watch the bartender make Painkillers in an assembly line, finishing with a flourish of freshly grated nutmeg. The bar (which gets its name from the bills that would get “soggy” as travelers waded thorugh the water onto the beach from their boats) has become a Mecca of sorts for Caribbean aficionados, an unmissable stop on any sailing jaunt in the Virgin Islands, a place often serenaded by Kenny Chesney in his odes to the green-hilled islands of the northeastern Caribbean. Pusser’s rum — Most painkiller recipes call for Pusser’s rum. It provides a dark, but rich flavor to your drink, as it blends in well with the other ingredients, most of them being fruit juices like pineapple and orange. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. The bar was forced to close in 2017 because of damage from Hurricane Irma. But, the legendary spot on Jost Van Dyke’s White Bay reopened the following year to continue serving up painkillers. Instructions: Incorporate all the ingredients and pour the mixture into your glass. If desired, garnish it with oranges or cherries. Although 2 oz. is the standard amount of rum per serving, we prefer not to measure ours. Instead, we simply pour the rum about halfway up the ice.Soggy Dollar Old Dark (750 ML) - Handcrafted, aged and triple distilled with natural cane sugar molasses, vanilla and caramel aged in oak casks for a smooth rich flavour and deep golden colour. Whether in a Painkiller or simply drink and savour over ice you will be transported to this Virgin Islands paradise. Whilst this rum is a bit rough and ready it is saved by its general “lightness”– it tempts at being quite aggressive on the initial sip but it’s very much like a yappy dog in that it’s bark is far worse than it’s bite. It just sniffs at your trouser leg and can barely make a mark in your jeans. It’s likely some of the rum in the bottle will come from Cruzan Distillery based at St Croix, US Virgin Isles. I’d also suggest maybe some Barbados and Trini rum is in there. Beyond that, I doubt there is any Jamaican or any kind of real Pot Still heavy rum or blend. It’s all just very column like. Light and a little sweet.

Pineapple and orange juice — If you wish, try using tropical juice instead of pineapple juice; something like mango, papaya, or maybe even guava juice would all do fine. And when it comes to orange juice, if you’d set your mind on finding a substitute, this time we’d recommend another citrus juice such as grapefruit, mandarin, and tangerine. The Pusser’s Painkiller entered my life about eleven years ago on my first ever trip to St. John in the US Virgin Islands. They are the signature drink of the Virgin Islands, and you will find a version at virtually every restaurant and bar down there. Outside of the Caribbean, the Painkiller is not a very common drink to find in bars. Most people haven’t heard of it unless they’ve been to the Virgin Islands. In fact, whenever I tell people about the Painkillers we love so much, I often find myself clarifying that it is the Painkiller drink, so they don’t awkwardly assume I’m talking about pills. How to Make a Pusser’s Rum Painkiller Instructions: Mix all the ingredients in your blender and blend. Pour into your glasses and garnish with fresh strawberries.Zombie Punch–is strong and mysterious. If you want the perfect booze by the beach, you better try this one. The in the main drink recipe is the same, but I believe they increased the amount of coconut cream and it harmonized with my taste buds! How to Make a Painkiller Drink

Since then, the Painkiller drink has become a permanent part of my life. This is what we drink on perfect summer days by the pool, on the coldest winter days when we want to feel tropical, and of course, whenever we return to St. John for vacations. Actually, we drink Painkillers on every vacation, especially in the rare instance that we see one on a menu, like recently in Savannah. Still, it’s a strong liquor, with high proof that has the potential to hit you hard, especially if you are not an experienced drinker. Considering that, when mixed with the juices and all the rum will hide well, you could easily be a few drinks in when you realize that and it might be too late. Hence, you might want to look for other alternatives. Other dark rums like Myer’s and Mount Gay will do a good job of replacing Pusser’s rum, and you might also want to consider Lemon Hart. And while its natural home will be in, say, the “painkiller” for which the Soggy Dollar is famous, we wanted to know if the company had produced more than just a mixing rum with Soggy Dark. Instructions: Combine all the ingredients in your blender until smooth. Pour into your chilled highball glass and garnish with a pineapple slice or maraschino cherry.Painkiller Martini — Although this is not exactly the original Soggy Dollar painkiller recipe, still, this one’s a pretty cool twist. Garnish with an olive and use tequila instead. Sipped it’s a little rougher around the edges and it shows a fair bit of youth on the first sip. It’s fierier than the nose suggests with a slightly bitter edge to it and a fair hit of wood and oak spices. It has a slightly perfumed tastes as well particularly once the wood and fiery alcohol on the sip begin to fade. A perfect summer drink, Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri, is made with rum, sugar, and lime juice–one of the best thirst-quencher while at the beach. Quite what the actual components are in this rum? I’m not sure quite what the “triple distillation” has added is lost on me. It’s probably dulled the flavours a fair bit. It sounds good when used in Vodka terminology but it’s a big turn off for any flavourful spirit that doesn’t rely on tasting of nothing.
