About this deal

I’ve read your answers carefully,’ Maya gives me a thoughtful look, ‘and you’re obviously quite a stressed-out woman.’ I’m . . . busy. Plenty of people are busy. It’s the way the world is. I have a high-powered job, my career is important to me and I enjoy it.

The plot is well-conceived and delivered. My only qualm with it was that maybe too much of what happens in the story was revealed in the blurb. Sophie Kinsella has sold over 40 million copies of her books in more than 60 countries, and she has been translated into over 40 languages. Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 2020-12-10 04:46:14 Boxid IA1999708 Camera USB PTP Class Camera Collection_set printdisabled External-identifier What follows is equal parts fun and amusement as Samantha struggles to make breakfast has no idea about how to work the oven or the washing machine.

SOPHIE KINSELLA is a former financial journalist and the author of the bestselling novels Confessions of a Shopaholic, Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic & Sister and Can You Keep a Secret? She lives in England, where she is at work on her next book. The next day when she wakes up, she is the housekeeper of a beautiful big mansion in rural England and has no clue how to go about her new job. (I have not mentioned any spoiler; all this is already mentioned in the blurb).

When she's not nose-deep in a book or typing away, you'll find her brainstorming with her hubby or captivating her 8-year-old daughter with enchanting tales. And every now and then, she indulges her creative spirit through painting and nurturing her garden. 🌻🎨 Your skin’s very dehydrated.’ Maya is shaking her head. She runs an expert hand across my cheek and rests her fingers underneath my jaw, looking concerned. ‘Your heart rate’s very high. That’s not healthy. Are you feeling particularly tense at the moment?’ The story is told in the first-person voice of Samantha Sweeting. There are no dull moments and a good pace is maintained throughout the book.I am intending to begin a regular regime of swimming. When I have time. Work’s been busy lately, it’s a blip.

Well.’ Maya gets up. She presses a button set in the wall and gentle pan-pipe music fills the air. ‘All I can say is, you’ve come to the right place, Samantha. Our aim here is to de-stress, revitalize and detoxify.’To start off with I thought the story was a tad on the silly side. I mean a lawyer getting mistaken for a cleaner then suddenly deciding it was the ideal job for her is rather unlikely. I have read some of Sophie's other books and they were much better, this one wasn't quite up to scratch I'm afraid.

The writing style of the author is great. Sophie Kinsella writes in her signature style and that is what makes this book such an outstanding read. She is someone who will appeal to all contemporary women – some will choose to agree with her while some may strongly detest her but I think all will agree that her character is quite relatable to contemporary working women. The characterisation is, well, extreme. No one ever does anything by halves and sometimes they undergo a complete personality change. An avuncular and friendly man turns out to be a villain. The nouveau-riche employers of the housekeeper turn out to have hearts of gold and feather brains. The gardener has hidden depths and an obliging mother. The lawyers get lawyers a bad name. In 2014 she published a Young Adult novel Finding Audrey about a teenage girl with social anxiety and her madcap family, and in January 2018, Sophie published her first illustrated book for young readers about the charming adventures of a mother-daughter fairy duo, Mummy Fairy and Me (also published as Fairy Mom and Me). Before Samantha leaves London, what are her highest expectations regarding love? Was there anything appealing about six-minute sex with Jacob? What stokes her attraction to Guy? Perfectly amusing . . . The Undomestic Goddessis a genuinely funny, sweet book. Kinsella is a comic whiz who consistently delivers what her readers crave.” — Miami Herald Samantha wistfully adores "The Waltons." Why is her family so different from the one depicted in that show? What does the ideal family look like in the twenty-first century?
