About this deal

The Japanese company is on a mission to regain the fans it lost after abandoning the hardcore gaming space, and turning nostalgia into dollars was always going to be the first thing it did. Texture filtering is problematic too, with PS5 running at a much higher anisotropic filtering setting than Series X. the review itself was very poorly constructed and focused more on the presentation of the games in the menu than the games themselves!

Along with updated Trophy lists for Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater, the Master Collection is the best way to experience all three masterpieces at once since the PS3 days. Alongside them is a bevvy of bonus content taken from the Substance and Subsistence re-releases on PS2, as well as extra material like digital comics, soundtracks, and screenplays.Switch, Xbox Series X and PS5 all sport a native 720p resolution, but anti-aliasing (AA) quality differs between all three consoles, notably in MGS2 where PS5 offers the most thorough treatment of rough edges. The front-end menus are a highlight, with neatly laid out extra content for each game and the rare luxury of choice between multiple versions of MGS1. On the plus side first, MGS2 and MGS3 at least run at 60fps on PS5 and Series X without much issue, though cutscenes are designed to run at a mix of 60, 30 and 15fps at points in MGS2.

Looks like the score is for the games themselves and not the collection which looks like a hot mess. net is owned by Gamer Network Limited, a ReedPop company and subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions Limited.

It's a bizarre situation on Series X as well, given the Master Collection produces a worse image than what we already had in the Xbox 360 HD Collection, running in back-compat on Series X. Still it begs the question: how far off the mark is Switch from hitting 60fps on a game that's fundamentally over 20 years old? also, since we are evaluating this collection in 2023 and 12 years have gone by since the original mgs hd collection on ps3, people have the right to be more critical of this package. You also get every variation of the PS1 Metal gear Solid: from the 1998 original, the VR/Special Missions expansion discs for Europe and North America, and the Japan-only Integral release.

Sorry couldn't resist framing as a loaded question after the Spider-man length debate, and games artificially extending their length to the point of insanity. There's still nothing else quite like a Metal Gear Solid game out there, and dipping your toes into any one of them is enough to consider ignoring your current-gen backlog for a few playthroughs all over again. Our promise to you - you can’t lose – join today and if you receive less points back from purchases than the fee you have paid for your membership for 12 months, we will give you the difference back in points. Yes, the quality of the originals was always going to be there, but surely the quality of the package as a remaster should have more weight in the verdict. These sub-30fps drops in MGS2 stand at odds with the Nvidia Shield version of the game, from which the Switch version is seemingly derived. Overall, across both PS2-era games, PS5 does ends up with the best image quality by a solid margin, especially in MGS3 where the camera is fully controllable to reveal the filtering advantage. Looking at Switch too, it's a shame 30fps is enforced for these PS2 classics with frame-rate drops below this target as well. On Shield the game runs at 60fps, though this is aided of course by using a higher-clocked Tegra X1 than Switch's.
