Trevor Hairsine's artwork is still eminently suited for this book; he's rough around the edges and a little gritty, but it's exctly what a book about a world covered in Anti-Life zombies should look like, for sure. Don’t want to spoil it for the readers, other than to say that John Constantine and Swamp Thing play a big role (yay! Superman secures the Daily Planet by removing all the infected from the building and blocking the exits. Gordon suggest they go to Ivy's garden in Gotham City and the group boards two armored school buses led by the Batmobile. Miracle requests his father to summon Metron, as they need his chair to access the cure, but Highfather explains he doesn't answer to anyone, which is why Miracle offers up the Madame Xanadu's crystal ball. Ivy however stops Dinah from bringing a now infested Arrow into their sanctuary, but Dinah leaves with him, refusing to leave his side and Cyborg reveals to them there is a cure and it was within Cyborg.On Apokolips, Cyborg is being tortured by DeSaad, who reveals that one-half of the Anti-Life Equation exists within his cybernetic body and that Darkseid intends to merge it with the half already in his possession. Superman, still stunned by Mxyzptlk's sudden infection and destruction of the entire planet tries to calm a hopeless Kyle Rayner as the latter tells him they've lost.

There's an attempt to amp the excitement by also tossing in a magical threat from the demon realm and a scientific one from a hidden enclave of villains, but it all results in the story becoming just a little too busy. With his anger raging and not willing to let another son die, his anger is enough for the power of the Spectre to surge within him, coronating Alfred the new Spectre and shortly killing Highfather with a punch through the skull.I'm not sure I've ever liked them more, as Taylor's version of these two now-adult superheroes was just about as perfect as it was subtly surprising. Cassandra is then able to obtain the staff of Shazam, as well as it's powers and uses them to deal with Freddy. The story takes place in an alternate Earth, where a corrupted version of the Anti-Life Equation has infected most of Earth's inhabitants with a zombie-like virus.
