About this deal

I live in Camberwell and you don't find a lot of literature using this borough as setting, it is not Notting Hill after all. Upon further development, the coloration of the eggs will change, becoming lilac-pink, and darkening to almost black, as they mature prior to hatching. The leitmotif of this book seems to be farting - not exactly something you would expect from chick-lit, but, hey, we live in the 21st century.

I have read and enjoyed three other novels by Jenny Eclair, so when I saw this in the 99p section, I immediately bought it. Compelling to read, but most of the characters are quite awful people, perhaps a sign of our society .

It has special significance there because in 2001 the Montana designated the Mourning Cloak as its official state butterfly. Hugh Newman raised thousands for release at his 'farm' in Bexley, but none were seen the following spring. You can also help by becoming a volunteer or helping us to raise funds and awareness of butterflies, moths and the habitats. As things jump about from chapter to chapter it is also a job to keep up but was it worth bothering to work out who was who and when was when? The first specimens of Camberwell beauty in England were caught in 1748, at Coldharbour Lane, Camberwell, London.

The mourning cloak's eggs can be eaten by predators such as beetles, true bugs, ants, beetle larvae, wasps, assassin bugs, and mites. This mural was saved when the factory was demolished and can now be seen on the old public baths and library building in Camberwell. Although Jenny Eclair’s writing is sharp and at times outrageously funny – or sometimes simply outrageous – this isn’t a shallow read. The ground colour is a deep velvety black, the surface is minutely but roughly granulated, being covered with extremely minute points and densely sprinkled with pearl-white warts, each emitting a fine white hair, some being of considerable length and the majority slightly curved. The large employer has often been likened to the Peek Frean biscuit factory and Hartley’s jam factory – both in Bermondsey – who also employed local residents. Fay Weldon -ishly, Anna becomes of kind of she-devil, so grimly self centred and dangerous a person is she. Habitat: Breeds in woodland clearings, river valleys and dense scrub, but can be seen almost anywhere.

Juvenile hormone (JH) is involved in the regulation of oogenesis and development of the male and female reproductive glands in the mourning cloak butterfly. There were moments of almost hysterical laughter and then moments of shock, a bit like seeing an accident and not wanting to look. In some years there is a relatively-large influx of individuals, as occurred in 1846, 1872, 1947, 1976, 1995 and 2006, where individuals were reported throughout the British Isles.

The ground colour is amber-brown, with a medio-dorsal series of longitudinal dark brown marks, and mottlings of the same colour form a dark spiracular band; the spiracles are also amber-brown; the sub-dorsal series is freckled with brown. I saw my first Camberwell Beauty in a garden off the Knavesmire, York, in 1976, but none since this one turned up on our door step.I found one patrolling back and forth along a river in Transylvania; a frequent activity of males who have emerged from hibernation.
