About this deal

Meanwhile, an aggressive teacher sets his sights on Sajou and after preventing an inappropriate interaction between the two, Kusakabe asks Sajou out. In fact, many of the relationships hinted at or existing in the series seem to be between underage students and teachers. To add insult to injury, the relationship that is deemed most worthy of that kind of background is the one where Sajou has been preyed upon by a child predator. Heck I've read manga dealing with things unheard-of, yet they still managed to be stereotyped and overall trashy.

On a spur of the moment decision, Hikaru offers to teach Rihito the song, and the two boys get to know each other better. Adjective) "showing gentleness and concern or sympathy" A simple word, and a very very very dumbed down review for an entire series, but it is the only word I can think of to describe my adoration for this series.Just two boys trying to figure out how love works and what its is like to try to be truly with someone. A personal interest for me is characterization in media and how women in particular have been portrayed, are being portrayed, and will be portrayed in the future. There isn’t an overarching plot, as the story unfolds, with each chapter presenting a new situation for the characters to have to come to terms with. While Doukyuusei is a universe where students are always potential victims for their professors, it’s also a universe where gay relationships, at least, aren’t seen as anything terrible or disgusting.

I would have enjoyed the story more if these high school kids didn't have to deal with a child predator butting into their relationship. However, very rarely, at least for me personally, do I stumble upon a BL that makes me cry and feel so attached to it's story and characters. It’s just another of many examples of BL genre setting the expectations so low, any not completely awful story seems like a masterpiece in comparison. The days where the two of them bond with the lyrics and notes has given Kusakabe a chance to know Rihito better. It is a slice of life told mainly from either of their viewpoints, with a one time dip into the mental processes of Hara, their music teacher. And while I don’t partake as often as I used to, don’t be surprised to find me poking around an anime or manga every once in a while either. One night, right before the chorus festival and effectively their last night of studying together, Hikaru kisses Rihito out of the blue and both of them are sent into a panic, not knowing how to respond. As I stated earlier, I was pleased that the boys had people who supported them in their relationship, but unfortunately for Rihito, much of his support came from the teacher, nicknamed Hara-sen. I will not disregard the fact that it felt like the story could've been more than it was, if you shake it up a bit and flesh it all out, but I feel that Nakamura-sensei made it like that so we DO actually feel the bottled-up soda pop of love that Kusakabe and Sajou-kun are experiencing. While the plot of Doukyuusei is not groundbreaking, somehow the exact feeling of a fleeting childhood crush is perfectly captured by Nakamura. He discovered that it was Rihito behind that voice and voluntarily tells him that he can be his practice partner.Doukyuusei can be read as a stand-alone, but to fully appreciate this story you should read Sotsugyousei and O. Having not read the original Doukyuusei manga before watching the film, I was surprised and a little disappointed to find that the film was less of a continuous plot and more a collection of vignettes about the characters’ romance. although I'm glad that the teacher acknowledges how it's bad to have a crush on a HIGHSCHOOL student, and he doesn't actually do anything serious to him it still really creeps me out. Gifs from the film Doukyuusei have been following me around for so long that I finally decided to give in and watch it, despite my trepidations about the yaoi/BL genre.
