Opportunities for artists inside Public Programmeswith Sara Greavu Saturday 4th May, 1pm - 4pmVAI Belfast Offices£20 / £10 (VAI Members)Institutions constantly seek new ways to engage with the general public, and artists can find opportunities outside of exhibition programmes. There are opportunities for artists to broaden their practice, connect with peers and reach new audiences through initiating and collaborating on public programmes. These can include:events (i.e. workshops, talks, performances),projects (i.e. collaborative publishing, public research) andprogrammes (i.e. screening series, lecture series, educational platforms). This session will explore the potential of artist-initiated public programmes to expand artistic practice, to foster new forms of dialogue and discourse and to explore collaborative methods in the production of knowledge and meaning. It will focus on examples of artists and institutions that are testing various ways of connecting with ‘publics’ and will involve collaborative discussion and planning of possible projects, research, events and dissemination methods related to participants’ own practice.
