About this deal

When driving, you don't want to be fiddling with the tiny buttons on your dash cam or trying to navigate a small touchscreen display.

Hardwiring a dash cam to your fuse box is a common installation method. This blog gives you easy to follow instructions to hardwire your dash cam. Learn more about how to get your dash camera set up with a hardwire kit. What does hardwiring a dash cam mean? The rear-facing camera isn’t quite so sharp, but still records at a perfectly respectable 1920 x 1080, also known as 1080p or Full HD. product/helpAdviseTab.hbs -->

The Halo Pro-exclusive Winter Mode, available when using the Halo Pro Hard Wire Kit, keeps the unit operating 24 hours a day, generating extra heat and keeping glass clear of frost, rain and mist. The constant fuse will allow the device to receive a constant flow of power so that it can operate without the ignition being switched on. You’ll also get a number of LEDs to tell you the recording status on the front camera, and there’s another on the rear to let you know it’s working. A hardwire kit is not essential to use with a dash cam, however it is preferred by many motorists due to the neat cable management when hardwired correctly. A hardwire kit can also provide additional features (depending on the dash cam specifications). For example, a Road Angel dash camera that has been hardwired will allow additional features to be accessed including Parking Mode and Winter Mode. Steps for hardwiring a dash camera If you want high-quality video recording from a reputable brand name, and aren’t too bothered about additional functionality, the Halo Pro by Road Angel is a good option. This is a dash cam that shoots in 2K video to the front and Full HD to the rear, producing great footage containing plenty of key details like street signs and number plates.

One thing to watch out for is how the Halo Pro sits on your windscreen. Depending on your vehicle, it may not be the most discreet solution. The forward-facing lens has a good amount of adjustability – crucially for ensuring it has the correct view ahead, no matter the rake of your vehicle’s windscreen – and the overall feel is one of a quality, well-made product. When all plugged in and working the built-in voice prompts tell you if there’s an issue with the memory card, and let you know the system is working. On the rear of the unit is a large ‘microphone’ button which can be pressed to disable audio recording – I’ve always had this turned off on my dash cams, but this button will remain lit up in red if you have switched off. There are so many budget dash cams out there it’s worth investing in one with a good warranty; otherwise, you can end up with something useless after a year or so…or worse, a camera you think has been working when it hasn’t. We’ve seen over the past few years that some car manufacturers are adding dash cam technology into their cars.

Faulty products will be replaced as soon as we are able to verify the fault and ship another to you.

To use a parking mode feature to its fullest, you'll need to hardwire the dash cam to your car battery. You'll either need to hardwire the dash cam yourself or get a professional to do it (ask your local garage or the store where you bought the dash cam). Additionally, some dash cam brands sell this cable separately, so you'll need to factor it into the overall cost.
