About this deal

I found the shirt very easy to put together because I’m an experienced seamstress but even I found the flipping back and forth quite frustrating and you just don’t need the distraction, that’s how mistakes happen.

Projects: Nummi bag, Sade blouse and tunic; Rae pants; Utu skirt and pinafore; Ruska dress, T-shirt, tunic and knot dress; Solina dress, jumpsuit and top; Saraste blouse, shirt dress and top; Kaste cocktail dress and butterfly sleeve dress; Palo jeans; Halla coat. All the other patterns come with 1 or more variations, and this one doesn’t even have an additional pocket, just the one compartment and that’s it. Platkin has been quoted as a health expert in thousands of publications, including USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, Oprah, Time, Newsweek, Ladies Home Journal, Men's Health, Shape, Self and Fitness. Charles Platkin frequently refers to his own personal experiences which combined with case studies he provides manage to cover most of the problems we face, and the energy we waste on them. I didn't do the best job with pattern matching - I was so focused on not having floral boobs that I didn't pay much attention to how the centre front was coming together, so there are some odd chunks of cut-off design that it would look better without.

Another example of where I am very susceptible to appealing Instagram posts from companies I follow. The feminine shade and the slight quirkiness of the black dots would match up well with the design of the dress. Complete with stunning photography, clear illustrations and instructions this book will show you how to create a coherent capsule wardrobe - complete with a collection of 10 garments that are easy to make, wear, and combine with each other.

I also felt the sleeves were a tad short which was a surprise considering Named state that their patterns are drafted for a taller woman but obviously not a long-limbed one. Definitely good to know for next time 🙂 Though I do like tracing since my paper is a lot more like pattern paper and I find it easier to pin than bond paper.Scandinavian fashion has long been admired for its stylish, clean-lined, interesting cuts and aesthetic. Anyways, I would still recommend this book because the patterns in it are gorgeous and very well drafted (I sewed both the Saraste and Solina dresses without any changes to the pattern). I love this dress and I was desperate to finish it before going on holiday as for me it's the kind of style you can wear for sightseeing in the day that will take you through to dinner if you don't have time to go back to your hotel. And although the ties are lovely-to-look-at details, what actually makes the dress for me are the flattering folds created by the waist pleats. I made size 5 sleeves and was careful to try and match the shape of the sleeve head to any changes I'd made the armsyce as a result of blending sizes.

Because of this, the decision has been made not to repeat some of these techniques later in the book. Blending sizes was pretty easy to do and meant I didn't have to do an FBA, which would have been more of an ordeal given this is a dress with no waist seam or bust darts. Fortunately I have long legs so the length doesn’t look awkward (the patterns are drafted for a 5’8″ woman) and I can picture it looking really cute with sandals in the warmer months. I have two in the pipeline yet to be photographed and blogged, but today I'm sharing my latest make which I cranked out the day before heading on holiday to Rome.

I decided to do the collar first as I was impatient to see it made up and then I completed the shirt.
