The breath of new life. The steady pulse in my veins. The long-awaited beat of a heart that's been dead too long. My kindred flame." Because we're the composers, the conductors of our own fate, and we write the notes to a beautiful, dark melody that no one else can hear." I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO BE DARK but I don't think I was prepared for how dark it ended up being. The entire idea behind the "Schadenfreude" cult was the most off-putting thing for me. It was so out there and obviously not real, but at the same time, it was so well written that the extreme cruelty was almost believable and it just made my skin crawl Since the book is shelved as romance, it’s unfortunate that this part doesn’t get as much focus as I would’ve liked. I loved that it’s an age gap trope, and don’t get me wrong, the book has it all covered when it comes to the sexual relationship. However, it just felt like the development was condensed. I still ended up enjoying this book even though there were some things that made me uncomfortable. If you want a thrilling read with a sexy romance and you don't mind reading about some especially dark themes then I definitely recommend this book! You will likely either end up really liking it or really disliking it haha

To properly flesh out this review, I must divide it into sections to highlight every important point as follows: So, there is this plotline about Lucien's hallucinations, how he was abused, the whole Solange thing but it didn't play a part in the story set in the present. He seemed cured of all the trauma and "forbidden desires" he had. I'm so impressed with the writing I can't remember a moment where I was bored out of my brains because the writing is so immersive and does an excellent job at keeping me engaged with the story. Two broken, secluded, distinguished MCs and their extremely emotional, tragic, heart breaking, angsty, pant melting story! Honestly, the writing style was so captivating. Seeing Lucian’s past and the things that led him to the man he is now gave her a glimpse of the rugged and uncompromising personality he portrays.

Lucian is a mysterious man, with years of gossip and tales about him and his family strewn through the village. If you are looking for a romance book, you should look for something different. First genre when you look on goodreads says this is supposed to be a dark-fantasy-gothic-romance, and romance in this book is probably one of the reasons why my rating is so low. The relationship between Lucian and Isadora started with lust, but it's not even the worst thing anyway, because the worst thing is that Lucian was interested in Isadora mainly because she was young (he is 19, he is 33) and she was a "forbidden fruit". I love age gap romances but the romance in this book was just bad. For a few months, desperate for an escape nineteen year old Isadora will be hired as a companion to Lucian's ailing mother. Being a daughter of a sinner and father unknown she's lived her life striving to escape the hold the island has on her. There was a romantic subplot in there but it was sooo under-developed that I just couldn't feel anything between the characters. ffs the first time they say they love each other is in the epilogue They had no reason for being together, besides the fact that they found the other attractive. I just felt annoyed while reading their scenes together, not that there were many of them. When you feel dead inside, you inevitably reach for things that make you feel alive. Pain. Adrenaline. Drugs. That’s how vices are born. That’s how you became my obsession. You are what makes me feel alive. Like a breath of air after drowning.”

I liked them as a couple and there's so much darkness surrounding them that I guess their darkness became their beauty. What I really liked was the twists at the end, even if you could spot them from a mile away. But even then, it didn't really lose its pace or my interest. Master of Salt & Bones was a book that I thought I would like.. but then ended hating. Loathing. Honestly, if I never saw this book ever again - I would be extremely happy. In it, you will meet two horrible people: Lucian and Isadora. He is the typical alpha asshole and she is something special. I guess? Their relationship was supposed to be "sex only" at first, but it never really was, and the H became super obessive to the point of being toxic (I know that this was discussed in the book - he admitted that she was his obsession, but it was never dealt with, and that's just..... not healthy, sweetie :)))))); acceptance is just the first stage)this book and the thousand trigger warnings it comes with, is in equal parts disturbing and hot and keri lake made me convince myself i have a questionable amount of kinks i never thought i'd have in a single lifetime. It is said that when Lucian was younger he was incarcerated in a psychiatric ward and scars mar half his face. The very scars that earned him the devil moniker. There are a few trigger warnings in this book for: emotional and physical abuse, sexual assault, drugs, attempted/r*pe, a hint of pedophilia, self-harm, suicide. He’s devil of Bonesalt, the monster of Tempest Cove, the mad son. There are so many rumors about him including killing his own son and wife, a psychopathic, enigmatic man who doesn’t live his mansion, hiding behind shadows.

This book has one of the most disturbing plot. Seriously, Lucian and Isadora, whether individually or together, are like magnets for all kinds of predators. You’ll get the twists and turns, the thrill and horror. The only problem is that the ending is a little rushed, and it doesn’t really amount to anything.

The heart is a dangerous organ that isn’t meant to be free. Why else would God have built a cage for it?”

He descends the staircase, the ease of his stroll like a man who can show up to a funeral without a care in the world and leave as if he's stolen the last sip of air." MASTER OF SALT AND BONES Is a full length, dark suspenseful romance read, by new to me author Keri Lake. Spoken in 'Dual perspectives.' In this we meet Lucian & Isadora. Sharks don't compromise, they hunt to kill, and Lucian is one of the more cunning in this sea of corruption." Lucian is an intimidating man with a chilling reputation earning him such monstrous titles that may or may not have to do with his scarred face or the rumor that he had murdered his wife and 4-year-old son. Isadora Quinn was a music virtuoso, raised by her aunt after having been abandoned by her drug-addicted mother - her father wasn't in the picture, and Isa didn't know who he was. There was a mystery surrounding her father's identity. While life was better with her aunt, it still wasn't great. The two barely scraped by most days. Isa may have been musically gifted, but she was too poor to leave the lazy seaside town in which she grew up to pursue a career in music. So when a job became available working at the town's only castle, Isa saw it as a way out, even though the town's rumors warned against it.This book is hidden, underrated gem. It’s twisty, angsty, surprising, extremely smart. There are so many jaw dropping moments. It was like walking in the minefields. Anytime an unexpected bomb may explode and shakes you to the core with new revelations. What was appealing about this one is it gave me a compelling story that radiated between the past and the present, a cast of complex characters and a delicious slow-burn romance that kept my heart racing. i absolutely loved the gothic vibes and was gripped by the unaplogetic wrongness that is the entirety of this book. The rest honestly just left me confused (actually it didn't "leave" me confused because I was never un-confused while reading Master of Salt & Bones .
