About this deal

It hasn’t taken the big cat long to improve on their Future Z again and this time, I think it is almost perfect. Puma Future Z 1.3: Going bigger on compression Putting on the boot isn’t a chore despite how small the mouth looks. All you need to do is to loosen the top laces and in goes your feet. The Puma Future Z fits perfectly width and length wise when I went half a size down. Those with super wide feet should go true to size but for everyone else, go half down. The boots feel light on feet at 220g in a US 9 and you’d be hard-pressed to hear anyone having issues with its weight or how they fit especially when you take your first steps in them. Look out for ‘LL’ if you’re thinking about going laceless, which the newest Ultra is available in, albeit only in the mid-range Match takedown version. Like the Ultra and Future, the King uses a Peba unit in the sole to increase responsiveness when you’re shifting your weight and dropping a shoulder or two.

Midfoot is relatively tighter than the rest of the upper; Evoknit though feels premium and has a nice firm stretch; best knit material any football boot these days; sorona yarn tightness more of reassuring than uncomfortable one (Jay Mike is narrow-footed); still says Future Z 1.3 is decently wide but might need some actual testing to see how adaptive the Fuzionfit+ for really wide-footed playersThe first time I put the boots on, I thought the compression band was tight around my midfoot – if it was a little tighter, the band would have caused cramping in my feet. Within a couple of minutes of light jogging and warm ups, my concerns and the tightness melted away. The compression band is comfy AF. The Puma Future Z is all about mobility Like past Futures (pun unintended), the boot is fairly wide so expect to go half a size down in them. The moment you put on the Puma Future Z 1.3, you’ll immediately notice the compression band doing its work on you. When you add in the soleplate (that’s been unchanged since we met the first FUTURE) and the ability to customise the boot to squeeze your foot exactly how you’d like, this might be the most responsive boot on the market. If you lace them up to match your foot type, you shouldn’t ever have to worry about rollover or feeling like the boot isn’t always tight to your foot. Now with multiple vegan-friendly offerings and countless collaborations with other brands, the King 21 has moved on far from the original design. Puma King technology As we mentioned, the Ultra Ultimate is the crème de la crème of this model. But for less money (which means less tech), you can grab Pro, Match and Play takedown versions.

However, I do wish that it didn’t need to readapt to my foot every time I put it on, and that it took to the shape after one or two games, instead of five. But still, the fit and compression are second to none among the current football boot selections out there. Really impressive work by Puma there. The Puma Future Z 1.3 has a more elegant touch The FUTURE looks like a boot that should shine brightest in front of goal. This all felt similar to dribbling... we were impressed, but not enough to go and retrieve the balls for another round, again, it's decent. Shooting, if you’ve found a lacing set-up that keeps the boot snug, is crisp. It didn’t quite the heights of EvoPowers gone by, but this was one of our favourite aspects of the current FUTURE. Passing and receiving the ball is easy, and you never feel like the NETFIT system is anything other than a standard part of the upper. For anyone wondering if the additions to the upper add anything to striking the ball or bringing the ball out of the air, maybe is our unhelpful answer. It's not noticeable but not many upper techs are. When it comes to touch, you do get a much closer feel of the ball as compared to any Puma Futures of the last 3 years. I felt quite connected to the ball when I make my passes, shoot or even when receiving it at pace. However, I can’t shake off the feeling that the touch feels pretty… average and dull? It’s not bad but it doesn’t feel unique or special like some of the previous Puma boots I’ve worn. Forefoot has no structure and feels extremely soft and pliable; comfortable feel favourite part of Jay Mike about the FutureIt’s not a deal breaker but I’d like the TPU coating to be thinner and to have a little more knitted material on that upper to provide a more luxurious touch on the Puma Future Z. I did a Reus – I went laceless

The latest iteration involved a compression band to adapt to your foot shape, evolving from the first concept of infinite lacing options. This greatly improved the boot with an improved fit but I found the touch on the ball to feel pretty… meh. One of the biggest feathers in the FUTURE’s cap is its price point. With most other knitted boots sit at the height of the boot world’s pricing, the FUTURE is actually much more modestly situated. If price is what has kept you out of the knitted/collared game, then the FUTURE opens doors. However, even with this, you’d be hard pressed to not just hit up the last version on sale since the boots are so similar... but you didn’t hear that from us. Designed for tomorrow’s superstars, these are the children’s versions of the Future, so players can wear boots that look like their favourite stars on pitch, but at a price point to keep parents happy.Previous Future compression band feels too concentrated on the midfoot; compression in new Future Z 1.3 feels evenly spread out
