About this deal

I must admit that the quality of each lens that I had the opportunity to test or use for a long time is at a very high level and I can easily imagine having each of them as part of my gear. My skill set was such that I had almost no success shooting handheld, and I was relegated to using a tripod for macro work. When we transitioned over to the Olympus M4/3 camera system back in June 2019, one of the first lenses we bought was the M. stops darker than the image centre and illumination is visually uniform with the lens stopped down to f/4 or beyond. It’s the only option for an autofocusing macro lens that can achieve a 1X magnification at a reasonable working distance.

The filter thread does not rotate, either, which is great news for photographers using a polarising filter. It doesn't cost you anything extra when you use these links, but it does support the site, helping keep ePHOTOzine free to use, thank you. In terms of light fall-off in the corners, there is nothing to worry about – the lens performs impressively in this regard. I find the Panny is much easier to use hand-held, and of course you do not have to worry about the focus limiter - and the ensuing focus-hunting that can occur if you are at the wrong focal setting. The most important first step to take when Bracketing is finding a subject that is still, any movement from you or the subject will result in a blurry final image or misaligned photos. No deposit is required and payments will be collected by direct debit in monthly instalments, the first instalment being collected 30 days after shipment of the product. Now that I’ve had several weeks to get to know this lens, let’s see if my initial impressions were correct.

However my insect macro session was cut short as I had some last minute urgent matters to attend to. Once downside to shooting with a flash is that most photos have a black background if there’s nothing behind the subject. and still get very good depth-of-field broadens the subject matter available for me to shoot in natural light. There is a link in the 60 mm macro review article to another posting that I wrote shortly after the PRO 90mm f/3.lifesize) Here is a photo from a camera locked on a tripod at closest focusing distance with the 12-40, and then the Olympus 60mm. The Lumix lens has an excellent optical quality too and is marvelously compact and light, thus ideal for travel. While I agree with you that the lens isn’t huge, and in fact is small for what you get, it is significantly longer than the Olympus 45mm f/1.

In particular, I’d welcome a delayed onset of diffraction and if it was possible to set a larger aperture without losing the fine detail. Following the six-month deferral period, Novuna Personal Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. For my amateur purposes the Panny is much faster in AF, easier to use and simply just plain fun to take close-up photos with compared to the longer Oly lens - especially when it comes to insects on the move or in flight. When I first started using the in-camera focus stacking technology I was continually adjusting the focus differential and the number of images to be combined. It has a convenient shooting distance and magnification display window to enhance macro shooting control. This lens is splash- and dustproof, so you can take it outside during bad weather and get the shots you need. Like most things photographic, it takes some time to experiment with new gear and technology before one can become reasonably proficient using it. A reclusive photography genius, known only as “Dmitry”, has proved to the world, by using some novel methods[1], that: smaller format cameras have a depth of field advantage over full-frame and larger format cameras.

but once you enter the close-focus range, the “effective” f-number starts to drop gradually as the reproduction ratio increases, reaching f/5.

It’s exactly the opposite – the 2x crop factor of M4/3 cameras is really helpful in macro photography. If you want a compact camera that produces great quality photos without the hassle of changing lenses, there are plenty of choices available for every budget. is perfect for my type of photography, which tends to be of small animals – usually reptiles and amphibians.
