When Maya’s dad, the inventor an innovative dream machine becomes trapped in a dream at the hands of the evil CEO of Insomnia, Inc. When his daughter Maya visits him in the expensive, secure, private hospital his boss is paying for, all she can do is watch him sleep. My favourite character was Maya because she suspected the evil boss lilith from the start even though no-one else did.

The plot is equally as mesmerising weaving you in and out of settings from one where people can’t be happier to one where a general adapts a fear of cows (sorry no spoilers! Despite it being slightly longer than other books we have read previously, this one kept both of us interested and excited to read with a fab bunch of characters and a thrilling story line. I can’t wait to listen to the audio version, as I just know it will be as stupendously epic as the Kid Normal narrations. They’re perfect to deepen children’s understanding of the story and develop a variety of key literacy skills. Generally I have to admit it was a good story and very entertaining but at some points, the authors went off on one with their own frivolous asides that not only broke the fourth wall and distracted from the story but they also took ages screaming (literally) and singing songs, repeating lines in slow motion and generally slowing down the story.

Falling asleep is the only chance she has to save her dad - the brilliant but slightly odd Professor Dexter. My favourite person was Maya ClayTon, she was so talkative and I loved her thoughts and what she kept dreaming of, the plot twists interested me the most, and yes, I would recommend to my friends who loves adventure stories and plot twists. Greg James As well as writing the bestselling Kid Normal series with Chris Smith, Greg is the host of The Radio 1 Breakfast Show, the loosely cricket based podcast Tailenders and Radio 4's Rewinder.

In amongst the madness there are subtle nods to facing up to fear, tackling things head on and putting demons to bed. Brilliantly bonkers, wonderfully wacky and the kind of read that many children will thoroughly enjoy getting lost in! Chris Smith has wanted to be an author ever since he was eight and won a competition by writing a story about a baby dinosaur who loved biscuits. It was so much fun and had me beaming throughout at the bonkers ideas that are pored into each chapter.Chris worked for many years as a newsreader and presenter on radio stations including Xfm and BBC Radio 1. It is a book that teaches you that even when happiness seems miles away it is much, much closer than you think! Together on Greg's show and in their weekly podcast, Chris and Greg are responsible for some of radio's most ludicrous games and characters, which genuinely wouldn't make any sense if we tried to explain them here . This 'The Great Dream Robbery' Character Description Activity Pack, produced in partnership with Puffin, includes all you need to deliver a lesson on character description with your KS2 class. I love Greg James and Chris Smith’s voices and how they interact with each other like there reading it next to me.

They used to spend hours and hours together in his wooden shed in the back garden, imagining amazing things. Or as in my case, in the library for book club – as it has left me with a plethora of activity ideas. His boss Lilith Delamere is paying all the expensive hospital bills, but Maya thinks there's something not quite right about the tall, dark haired lady who looks like she hasn't slept for months! Befriended by inventors Toby and Bea and aided by mattresses, a unicorn and banana – eating llamas, the three “Dream Bandits” embark on a daring rescue full of danger and magical, dream-like mayhem! In line with the National Curriculum, all of our ‘The Great Dream Robbery’ activities have been designed especially for use within children aged between 7 and 11 years old.Maya isn’t the only one who needs to stop Lilith, siblings Teddy and Bea have uncovered a terrible plot that involves their mum. It tells the story of 12 year old Maya who, unlike most other children her age, actually wants to go to bed early. I knew that underneath all that anger was a tired woman who just wanted to freaking sleep for once but thanks to nightmares and dad she wasn’t able to.
