A sipping gin on its own, the addition of a large block of ice and twist of orange brings out the aromatic flavours. Subtle as a hill-farmer’s handshake – that you can still feel five minutes later – but leaves you in no doubt about all the hard work which has gone into building that strength. Inspired by the beautiful nature of Shetland, we wait each year for the right weather conditions to harvest our botanicals.

Created by five Brighton residents, Brighton Gin is distilled with oranges, limes and milk thistle and truly captures the spirit of this famous city. The only family of original English gin makers still distilling today, Hayman’s make award-winning English gin the original way.

Strathearn Distillery, near the village of Methven in Perthshire, is probably Scotland’s smallest distillery. Each pairs perfectly with soda or tonic for light and refreshing long drinks, and all varieties are vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free, no carb and just 41 calories per serving. Both of us tried our hand at making wines, beers and liqueurs just for fun, but we realized that taking these to a commercial level would not be easy: the number of wine estates listed in Platter's wine guide each year just keeps on growing, and the craft beer market seems saturated. Packed with juniper and bright citrus notes our use of native botanicals gives our spirits a distinctive Scottish accent.

For the assistance of other uninitiated drinkers, Blackwoods is a small batch gin from the Shetlands: that group of 100 or so islands on the same latitude as the southern coast of Greenland. The four botanicals used are meadow sweet, sea pink, angelica and marsh marigold, which Blackwoods also use in their gins. In 2013, word of further funding came through, with a promise that a distillery will open soon after [4] but by 2015 that had not happened.Fishers is an artisan British gin distilled on the Suffolk coast that uses rare botanicals to create a gin as pure and wild as the sea.

In addition, the investment into the Ardgowan Distillery will allow Distil to accelerate its NPD program, with liquids developed at the Blackwoods brand home on the Ardgowan site overseen by Master Distiller, Sion Edwards.
