About this deal

Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Last year’s Philips OLED806 was up there with the very best mid-range OLED TVs – but the OLED807 beats its predecessor in pretty much every way. Gaming is supported by two HDMI 2.1 ports (in addition to two HDMI 2.0 ports), with support for 4K 120Hz and Variable Refresh Rate, plus Auto Low Latency Mode so it switches to its Game Mode when you fire up a console. Approximate width of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio.

The 48-inch Philips 48OLED806 won 'best TV' at last year's What Hi-Fi Awards, so we've high hopes for the OLED807. The new range will be available in 48-, 55-, 65- and 77-inch screen sizes in the first half of 2022. Pricing is still under wraps.Aplikace Philips TV Remote a související funkce se liší podle modelu televizoru, operátora a země, stejně jako se liší podle modelu chytrého zařízení a operačního systému. Podrobnosti naleznete na adrese www.philips.com/TVRemoteapp. The Philips 807 might use an EX OLED panel, but the claims of a 30% increase in brightness depend on what’s being tested. The 55in 807 hits 720cd/m² on a 10% window, which is fairly standard for an OLED, but also reaches 189cd/m² on a full-field pattern, which is an improvement and ensures the overall luminance of an HDR image looks brighter. Televizor podporuje příjem DVB vysílání ‚Free to air‘. Někteří operátoři DVB nemusí být podporováni. As usual, we use the Expert mode or similar, depending on the manufacturer, as a starting point for our calibration as it is the most accurate picture mode. Philips has several good picture modes to choose from including Filmmaker Mode and a Calman profile for auto-calibration. Like other OLED TVs, manual calibration of OLED807 is relatively simply and only a few adjustments were needed to get close to our reference. Philips TVs – like Sony TVs – offer multiple setting options for adjusting luminance including an option to define the maximum level. Unfortunately, this setting is shared between SDR and HDR10 so adjusting brightness to look optimal in SDR will make the picture look too dark in HDR. We therefore recommend using Expert 1 for SDR and Expert 2 for HDR10, with the only difference being the setting for 'Light Boost'. Dolby Vision has its own – additional – picture modes and is not affected.

Three HDMI inputs and two USB ports for connecting external devices such as gaming consoles and media players. The storage temperature shows the range from a minimum to a maximum temperature, within which storing of the display is considered to be safe. The OLED807 retains Philips’ long-running reputation for sharpness, too. Its pictures look emphatically 4K with the set’s Ultra Resolution feature in play – and this feature now seems to cause no significant unwanted side effects, so we see no reason not to use it (we recommended avoiding it in the past). The OLED807’s extra brightness also brings out more shadow detail in dark areas than we got with the OLED806, and HD sources are upscaled with more sharpness and detail than you get from most rivals. The Android TV system is very snappy and responsive here, and certainly more so than on last year’s Philips TVs. However, this 11th version’s attempts to provide a more personalised, recommendations-based user experience are somewhat hampered by the fact that it only currently taps into five apps, only three of which (Prime Video, Apple TV and Disney+) you probably use, for its recommendations. Android TV is also absent. Instead, this model uses the 'Saphi' operating system often found on Philips' more affordable European TVs. This could limit the number of streaming apps, but it's too early to say for sure. We could spend a good few thousand words next on the myriad picture adjustments provided within Philips convoluted menu system. It really does feel like Philips has given you control over, well, everything. For the sake of everyone’s sanity, though, we’ll limit ourselves to saying that while enthusiasts may embrace and enjoy exploring the huge range of adjustments the 55OLED807 carries, it can all be a bit intimidating to more regular folk. The rest of the colour palette is lifelike and convincing – and, to be absolutely blunt, much better judged and much less aggressive than we’ve become used to from Philips. There’s still intensity of tone when needs be, of course, but when it’s describing skin-tones (in particular) the 55OLED807 is more lifelike and convincing than the model it replaces. And this is true even if you’re using one of the more, um, vivid picture presets. The sharpness isn’t messed up by camera pans or fast moving objects, either, thanks to Philips’ excellent motion compensation processing. The ‘Standard’ setting for this that’s the default for some picture presets is too aggressive, creating too much soap opera effect (excessive fluidity) and too many unwanted side effects. Its Pure Cinema and Movie settings, though, both offer excellent options for taking the edge off hardware judder without the image starting to look unnatural or uncinematic.

The inclusion of ALLM means the TV automatically switches to the low latency Game mode when compatible consoles are detected, and this delivers an input lag of 15ms. While not as low as some of the completion, it’s more than fast enough for all but the most demanding of gamers. There are fans of Ambilight who swear by the technology, but if you’re a video purist who doesn’t fancy disco lighting behind the TV, there is another benefit. Ambilight offers a neutral white setting that acts as a bias light and has a number of key advantages, such as improving the perceived contrast, and also creates a more comfortable viewing experience at night. Philips OLED807 review: HDR performance The storage altitude shows the maximum possible altitude for secure storing of the display. Storing it above this limit may result in damaging the display. As usual, there are too many picture modes to select from and any user is bound to be confused. We continue to encourage TV makers to clean up and simplify. We cannot imagine any single user out there who wants so many marginally different picture modes to choose from. The purist only needs one which is a calibrated mode. A Game mode can also useful but with ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) that automatically switches the TV to game settings, one could imagine an all-in-one solution that simply deactivated additional processing to bring down input lag.

Philips OLED807 Preview

Google Assistant is available on Philips Android TVs running on Android O (8) or higher OS version. Google Assistant is available in selected languages and countries. Ambilight remains the major USP feature and offers something no other manufacturer can provide and that includes the superb Bias light static mode with calibration options so you can watch without eye strain or getting tired when watching in dim surroundings. Plus, the new system adds in more accuracy with the colour palette from the individually controlled LED lights in the ‘Follow” modes, which can add more immersion for viewers and gamers who want it. The four sided system on the OLED807 is superb, as is the new Aurora still mode for when you are not watching TV but want the Ambient lighting effects with stills shown on the screen. Philips has got its Game preset input lag time down for the OLED807 to 15.1ms with 1080p/60Hz feeds. That’s still 5ms or so higher than the fastest results we’ve seen this year, but you’d have to be a more competitive gamer than us for 5ms to make a serious difference to your performance.
