About this deal

Along with all Masai giraffes, he was elevated to being a distinct species - giraffa tippelskirchi - rather than a subspecies of the northern giraffe - giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi. Danny Dog then brings up a game of ball, in which everyone gets excited except Gerald, who will play later as a tear drops down his neck. It ends up at Gerald, in which Peppa says that he can reach the ball because he's tall, in which everyone gets excited as the narrator says. It's a story that children can read for themselves but it's also a good one for adults to read at bedtime. This is a special edition book to celebrate 20 years of this story, but it was the first time my 2 year old heard this story, and even me too!

From Mombassa the skin was shipped as freight to London where he was mounted by the taxidermy firm, Rowland Ward Ltd.In the twenty years since Giraffes Can't Dance bounded into the world, it has become a favourite with children all across the globe. The story is as good as always, with Gerald the Giraffe struggling to dance but eventually finding his feet - a classic that is standing the test of time. If you don’t have the original blue covered book this is a gorgeous story of finding yourself and embracing your own magic and interests even if people laugh at you. We will keep you in the know about what’s happening seven days a week - but there’ll be so much more than just news. Gerald was taken along with the other items too big to move into storage, and transferred with the help of cranes to the site’s natural history building, carefully wrapped to avoid damage.

In a carefully orchestrated manoeuvre, Gerald was taken out of the old natural history gallery in 2010, and transported to the museum and hoisted over the roof. Gerald, who is 17ft and weighs around 500kg, first took up residence at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum in 1920, and has been a popular exhibit enjoyed by generations of children. Gerald Giraffe’s exact height is not known although some sources online have suggested he could be 20 metres tall!

Gerald is nearly as tall as Dr Hamster and he explains to his new friends that he is going to be even taller than Dr Hamster when he grows up.
