Books Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Joke Book is a must-have for all young readers and all readers who are young at heart.

I love a good joke book so I was excited to get to this book during my Roald Dahl readathon. I went into it with high hopes and I am happy to say I wasn’t disappointed.MISS TRUNCHBULL: What do you call the outer part of a tree? BRUCE BOGTROTTER: Don't know, Miss! MISS TRUNCHBULL: Bark, silly! Bark! BRUCE BOGTROTTER: Woof, woof! While Dahl hardly excelled as a student, his mother offered to pay for his tuition at Oxford or Cambridge University when he graduated. Dahl's response, as quoted from his autobiography, Boy: Tales of Childhood, was, "No thank you. I want to go straight from school to work for a company that will send me to wonderful faraway places like Africa or China." Based on Roald Dahl’s most famous and best-loved characters you will be chortling away with Matilda, Charlie, George, The BFG, James and many more!

TEACHER: What are you reading? PUPIL: I dunno! TEACHER: But you're reading aloud! PUPIL: Yeah, but I'm not listening! His very first children’s book, written in 1943 was called The Gremlins. Of the films that were adapted from his books during his lifetime, Roald Dahl came to despise them. Roald Dahl was born in Llandaff, South Wales on September 13th 1916. His parents were Norwegian, and were called Harald and Sofie. He went to Repton school, in Derbyshire, and left school in 1933.

As with all of the Roald Dahl books I have read recently, this book was illustrated by Quentin Blake. The illustrations in this book perfectly capture and elevate the jokes and situations that the jokes are set it. Having images to go with the jokes just made everything more entertaining.
