About this deal

Dark Nights: Metal also marks the first appearance of Dream of the Endless from Neil Gaiman's The Sandman (1989–1996) in the post- New 52 DC Universe. [4] According to Snyder, he wanted to make the story unforgettable and a character to help guide the superheroes through the unknown. When he realized Dream would be a good fit, he reached out to Gaiman for permission to use him. “I was so excited... [Gaiman] couldn’t have been more generous", he said. "It’s literally one of the best moments of my career, to be able to get to write a character that meant so much to me growing up and still does". [5] The first two issues of Metal are darn near perfect love letters to the DC Universe, touching on everything from Mongul to the creation of the DC Multiverse! Evil Dark Knights from the multiverse have risen! Only Batman and the world's greatest superheroes can save the multiverse! Get the entire Dark Nights Metal epic in one heart-pounding collection. Batman discovers that a hierarchy of macguffin metals are somehow the key to opening an inter-dimensional portal to the dark multiverse. Pursuing this information while refusing to divulge it to anyone (the dumbest bat trope), Batman is captured by powers of the dark multiverse and used to facilitate their takeover of the primary DC universe. The heroes and villains of the defending plane unite to prevent their universe from being consumed by the forces of darkness. Please note that the Dark Days issues are also included as individual issues below – I include the recently announced “Road To Metal” trade to call out the less obvious “tie-ins” in Nightwing and Detective Comics.

I find the decision to release Batman & The Signal #1 prior to Metal #5 and Metal #6 extremely confusing. The issue clearly occurs in the aftermath of Metal. What was the rush to release this new series? The odd scheduling brings to mind Marvel releasing their All-New All-Different lineup prior to the conclusion of Secret Wars, semi-spoiling the outcome in the process. This story from 1990 introduced the Bat-Demon Barbathos (the big bad of Dark Nights: Metal) into the DC mythology. The Gotham resistance continue to fend off the invasion of the Batman Who Laughs and a Gotham turned inside out. The Return of Bruce Wayne is a 6-issue miniseries which spins out of Final Crisis #6. This features the other appearance ofthe Bat-Demon Barbathos. Hal Jordan is summoned by Ganthet to investigate a dark presence that he senses on Earth, the location of which is revealed to be the Batcave. Upon his arrival, he meets Duke Thomas. As they investigate, they stumble upon a hidden room in the Batcave, where they hear a mysterious voice that lures them in. This leads them to a cell where Batman has imprisoned the Joker. [14]Comic Book Roundup gave issue #2 an average score of 8.8 out of 10 based on 37 critics. [24] Jim Johnson of CBR praised the issue, and the story-line, for giving Batman a larger role in the DC Universe, saying " Dark Nights: Metal, though, has so far not only given his character fantastically plausible reasons to get out of Gotham, but to take a central role in a storyline that reaches much farther." [32] Schedeen gave it an 8.5 saying "While Metal still has a few kinks to iron out before it can rival the best of Snyder and Capullo's work, the series is delivering plenty of drama and spectacle as it explores the collision between the DCU and the Dark Multiverse." [33]

The New Age of DC Heroes: Debuting new characters and stories related to the repercussions of Dark Nights: Metal. Embarrassingly, I could barely remember how Neil Gaiman’s Sandman ended, and it’s my second favorite comic of all time. “The Wake” will serve as a refresher for those of you as forgetful as me. Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen– Spinning out of the “Justice/Doom War” in Justice League and the epic “Infected” arc from Batman/Superman, DC’s two top villains face off in a battle royal.Given the insanely talented creative team-up of Jeff Lemire and Bryan Hitch, I wanted to like Hawkman Found significantly more than I did. It’s a fine comic, but with significantly more questions than answers, to the point that I’m not sure how much this issue contributes that the core event wouldn’t already cover. Since Metal is so comparatively tight (for an event), I wouldn’t actually skip, but if you’re strapped for time or cash, you can.

Cronin, Brian (July 20, 2017). "Scott Snyder Announces Massive DC Crossover Event for 2019". Comic Book Resources . Retrieved September 4, 2018. In June 2017, DC announced seven one-shot comics that tie into the story of "Dark Nights: Metal": Batman: The Red Death, Batman: The Murder Machine, Batman: The Dawnbreaker, Batman: The Drowned, Batman: The Merciless, Batman: The Devastator, and The Batman Who Laughs. DC stated, "Each one-shot story spotlights a different, corrupted version of Batman spawned from the Dark Multiverse to wreak havoc on Earth." [6]This epic omnibus contains the entire Dark Nights: Metal saga, including Dark Nights: Metal #1-6, tie-in stories from Dark Days: The Forge #1, Dark Days: The Casting #1, Batman: The Red Death #1, Batman: The Devastator #1, Batman: The Merciless #1, Batman: The Murder Machine #1, Batman: The Drowned #1, Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1, Dark Nights: The Batman Who Laughs #1, Batman: Lost #1, Hawkman: Found #1, Dark Knights Rising: The Wild Hunt #1, Nightwing #29, The Flash #33, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #32, Green Arrow #32, Suicide Squad #26, Teen Titans #12, and Justice League #32-33. Devastator feels like a one-shot with real consequences, as the Doomsday Virus Batman invades Metropolis and anyone still placing their hope in Superman. It’s an extremely strong issue and one that has me wondering how the DCU will recover. Collects: The Flash #33, Hal Jordan And The Green Lantern Corps #32, Justice League #32-33, Hawkman: Found #1, Teen Titans #12, Nightwing #29, Suicide Squad #26, Green Arrow #32, Batman: Lost #1 And Hawkman Found #1

Justice League’s tie-in to Metal gives updates on nearly every characters standing in the invasion of the Multiverse, and brings our clearest insight into Cyborg’s situation since Batman: The Murder Machine.Johnson, Jim (October 11, 2017). "Dark Nights: Metal – Superman's Crucial Role, Revealed". CBR . Retrieved 2017-10-13. Hot damn this event is great. The first look into the Bats of the dark multiverse highlights “The Red Death,” a look at a dark Batman with the speed force. If you’ve ever wanted to see Batman wield the combined weapons of the Rogues in a fight with the Flash, this is your chance.
