About this deal

This expansion allows the rivet to cover a larger surface area, but as a result has a weaker tensile strength. This makes these rivets more suited to thinner applications, such as cardboard boxes and other porous materials. Once installed, the rivet cannot be removed from the outside of the box. Suitable for front panel mounting, these economical clips easily snap into round holes and cover a smaller surface area. They are ideal for securely holding a variety of materials in place, including both metals and plastics. No tools are required for installation - simply apply thumb pressure over the flat round-shaped head.

Ratchet Rivets can be used with Snap Rings and Snap Ring Washers, when the compatible mating hole has a 5.5mm diameter. These Push-In Rivets feature a pin for easy finger-pressure installation. They are a versatile rivet that can be mounted in round, square or rectangular holes. Square hole mounting is used for anti-rotation applications. The observant individual reading this article might assume that this means the countersunk head sits even with the surface of the workpiece. They’d be right. A hole with a countersink (typically a 100° bevel) is matched to the size of a rivet with a 100° chamfer on the shoulder. These rivets can be blind or solid, and have obvious advantages for aesthetics and aerodynamic drag characteristics (think, less turbulence on the airplane wings). Metal Rivet MaterialsRatchet Rivets are a coloured snap-together fastener made from plastic that requires a two rivet assembly. Simply snap the two identical ratchet rivets together to create a single connection ready for your application. These easy to use rivets require no tools, such as screws, for installation. Our Pop Riveting range is strong, but lightweight. It offers good electrical insulating properties, as well as resistance from vibraton, abrasion and corrosion. Blind Rivets Blind rivetsare tubular fasteners with a mandrel through the center, designed to be inserted into predrilled holes. These rivets utilize a specialized tool that draws the mandrel through the body of the rivet, creating a secure hold. This is the great-granddaddy of all other rivets, consisting of a simple shank or shaft with a head at one end. Solid rivets come in various profiles to fit the application; the pan head, the domed head, the low profile mushroom head (no, we aren’t making things up), and the flat head. The solid rivet is sturdy and no-nonsense, and very few fastening methods are as consistent in their ability to hold two materials together. Blind Rivet

Rivets, Uses, and Alternatives for Joining Metal 6 Types of Rivets, Uses, and Alternatives for Joining Metal

Rivets are available in several styles and material options, including blind rivets, copper belt rivets, plastic snap rivets, and more. Some of the more popular rivets include the following styles: Pushing the pin into the rivet body causes the legs to expand outwards, allowing them to get a firm grip on the material in the assembly. The rivet legs expand to a distance of 18.6mm. Barbed rivets- commonly called pop rivets, they ensure fast and easy installation and can be applied to various materials such as wood, metal and rubber

When determining the distance between two or more fasteners, you can calculate the distance by the formula, C/L to edge + 1/2 the diameter of the second mounting hole. If you’ve ever worked with pop rivets, you know that whether it’s user error, component variability, or misalignment, there can be significant variability in the quality rivet-to-rivet. Applications of Rivets and Fasteners Available to buy separately is a Rivet Hand Toolthat offers faster fixing for these Spreading Rivets, and is the recommended application method. This Push In Rivet, also known as a Push/Pull Knob Rivet or a Releasable Rivet, is a type of panel fastener designed for optimal assembly and removal for a range of applications, particularly those that require regular maintainance, as well as fast assembly and removal. Another benefit of SendCutSend inserted hardware, along with our tapping service, is that they are always installed square (or perpendicular to the mounting surface). This is particularly difficult to accomplish in the home shop without specialized equipment. For an in-depth look at each type of fastener and how best to use it, take a look at our article on Designing with Sheet Metal. Limitations of Using Rivets vs. PEM Fasteners Time Tubular (or semi-tubular) rivets resemble a solid rivet with a hole drilled partway through the tail end of the shaft. They are installed in the same way as solid rivets–with access to both sides of the fastener being required–but only require about a quarter of the force to set the rivet. Because the tubular rivets only deform at the hollow end, rather than throughout the length of the shaft, they can be used for pivot joints. Flush Rivet When used in combination with a Snap Ring, the rivet becomes suitable for very thin applications. Ratchet Rivets can also be used with Snap Ring Washer's, which acts as a special cushioning washer, providing the ratchet rivet with more surface support. Browse our extensive Nylon Snap Rivet range that fits with a simple push, and have a tidy and smooth finish. Options made from Nylon 6, with a UL94 V2 flame resistance, or made from Nylon 6/66 with a flame resistance of UL94 V0. Also available in the Nylon Snap Rivets range are Heat Resistant Rivet Snaps made from Nylon 4/6 that have a UL94 V2 flame resistance rating.

Plastic rivets are suitable for use in a variety of applications, including the automotive, and construction industries. They are also used in electronics applications and also widely used in medical and consumer products too. What are the benefits of choosing plastic rivets? Solid rivets, or the original rivet. These solid fasteners resist water, vibration, tampering, and other severe conditions. Our range has two options. One has a Chrome Plated Steel spring and the other a Stainless Steel spring. The Stainless Steel option can also be installed using a cross head screwdriver. The Snap Ring Washer, also named Ratchet Washers, can be used together with both a Snap Ring and Ratchet Rivet - this results in greater surface support for softer materials and for larger hole sizes. This combination is suitable for rotating applications. Also available are Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) installation tools, available in Green. This tool is suitable for Drive Rivets and offers faster assembly and more accuracy of rivet placement. ABS benefits from good heat, impact, chemical, impact and abrasion resistance. It also has great stability, tensile strength, surface hardness, rigidity and electrical properties, and even copes well at low temperatures. The large plunger head and easy-grip handle help reduce operator fatigue. Install by; load rivet into the tool and insert into the application hole. Pressure on the plunger frees the pin and expands the rivet in the assembly. Tubular Rivets have a shank hole within the shaft of the rivet and are available with different head styles such as the oval, button, flat and countersunk.
